TLM Masses (Regional) for Thursday, January 1st, 2009

This is the list I have for TLM Masses regionally: Saint Bartholomew's Church, Manchester, MD, 2 PM Saint James Church, Charles Town, WV, 8 AM Here is the regional holy day schedule I put together. Some area Churches have their Holy Day schedules in PDF format. You might wish to check these to see if a TLM is being celebrated . Saint Alphonsus has an 11:30 Mass on January 1st, but there is no mention of whether it is a TLM or a Mass in the Ordinary Form.

Traditional Latin Mass in Maryland...Quo vadis? (The state of the TLM locally)

This blog was begun on December 8th, 2007 and dedicated to Our Blessed Mother on the Feast of her Immaculate Conception. As of that date, the only TLM known to me was the Traditional Latin Mass celebrated weekly at Saint Alphonsus Church in Baltimore, MD. I had a personal link to the Summary of Masses catalogued by the marvelous Ecclesia Dei Coalition, but there were no links to these Masses on the nascent blog. Over the past year, many new and exciting things have occurred by God's Grace. I began to receive emails from friends of TLM-MD who apprised me of new and fascinating developments. For example, a TLM was scheduled for St. Bartholomew's Church in Manchester, MD and I publicized that ( more Masses at Saint Bartholomew's are scheduled in the future ). A dear friend in WV has kept me up-to-date on the situation at Saint James the Greater Church in Charles Town, WV. Over the Christmas season this year, TLM Masses were celebrated at both Saint James Church

Pope Pius Clock...and a True Alternative, The Mother Mary Clock

Image
Several days ago, Fr. Tim Finigan of " The Hermeneutic of Continuity ," in a humorous vein, posted a story on the "Pius Clock ." The clock displayed was a wall clock of Popes Pio I to XII located at each point of the hour. Fr. Finigan saw the clock displayed on the Hound of Heaven website and labeled as a "last minute gift idea ." The blogger, "Hound," unfortunately, saw the jpeg image posted on the internet somewhere and wrote it up as a humorous story. As the link above shows, he has no idea where to obtain one ! This is problematic as I posted a link to Fr. Finigan's story, and have had a number of folks seeking a "Pius Clock"...really ! After searching the internet to no avail, I'd like to offer a substitution. This is "The Mother Mary" clock and and is not meant in humor at all . Here is an image: The clock is actually quite beautiful, can be obtained here (the California Clock Company), and the art

TLM Coming to the Eastern Shore of Maryland? Possibly...

One of the most persistent searches I have on this blog is for the TLM somewhere on the Eastern Shore of Maryland on a regular basis. This is the Diocese of Wilmington. Tonight I received an email from my TLM friend that I will "redact": Fr. M. will be celebrating the [Traditional] Mass on the first Sunday of each month at Holy Redeemer Church in Delmar, 3:00 pm , beginning February 1, 2009. If this proves to be successful, I believe the long range plan is to make it an every Sunday Mass that would include holydays. If I learn more, I will put a link in and update this post. In the meantime, I would think your prayers for this are warranted. I'd also disseminate this news by email to those interested and mark this on your calendars! D.v. More info can be found here .

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses - Tips for Finding One Near You

A cursory glance will reveal that this blog is dedicated to be a clearinghouse for the Latin or TLM (Traditional) Mass. I have done the best I can to find Masses for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day which are TLM Masses . If you are searching for a Novus Ordo (Ordinary Form) Mass near you or near to where you are visiting, please go here: MassTimes.org . This site lists Masses by Diocese, by Zip Code or by City. If you find Masses that are near your destination, the best bet is to call the Rectory and listen to when the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses are scheduled. At this time of year, in an Archdiocese the size of Baltimore or Washington, most rectories will have telephone recordings. The list WILL NOT be posted on MassTimes.org since this is considered a "two-day" holy day and huge attendance is expected. I have checked the Archdiocesan websites. Neither Baltimore nor DC has a list of Parishes with their Christmas schedules. You might find it listed in th

Regional Christmas Mass News: St Francis de Sales Church and Our Lady's Church in Medley Neck

A kind reader shared this email with me this evening: The Tridentine Mass is celebrated every Sunday at 11:00 am at St Francis de Sales Church in Benedict, MD (St. Francis de Sales 7185 Benedict Avenue, Benedict, MD). A social hour (with coffee and donuts) is held after Mass in the church hall. On the first Sunday of each month, a High Mass is celebrated...on the other Sundays a Low Mass is celebrated (preceded by recitation of the rosary). There will also be an 11:00 AM Mass on Christmas Day. I have the privilege of serving Mass here. The Tridentine Mass is now also being celebrated every Sunday at 7:00 AM at Our Lady's Church at Medley's Neck, 41410 Medley's Neck Rd, Leonardtown, MD (just south of Leonardtown) . There will also be an Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. I cannot vouch for the new weekly Mass at Our Lady's Church at Medley's Neck as it is not posted on the Parish's website. However, I feel this information is enough to list this post with t

Traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine, Gregorian) for 4th Sunday of Advent, Christmas Vigil and Christmas

I am deeply indebted to the Traditional Latin Rite Missal Project for these TLM Propers maintained online . Fourth Sunday of Advent, Missa 'Rorate Caeli' Vigil Mass of Christmas or Christmas Eve, Missa 'Hodie Scietis' First Mass at Midnight, Missa 'Dominus Dixit' Second Mass at Dawn, Missa 'Lux Fulgebit' Third Mass during the Day, Missa 'Puer Natus Est' These Masses are not meant to completely replace a recent Missal as portions may not conform to Summorum Pontificum and its final stipulations. Another resource is Una Voce of Orange County (California) which has posted the Propers online from the Saint Andrew's Missal ( by permission; 1952 version ). The pages will need to be downloaded.

Notice on Posting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses

This blog gets heavy traffic from people within the State of Maryland but also from visitors who apparently plan to spend the Christmas holy day here in the State or its environs. I am dismayed that there does not appear to be any "formal" site which lists such things as links to Parish Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses within the Archdiocese. I suppose that if someone was going to visit Parkville, MD, they would have to go to MassTimes.org site (see the header where a link is provided) and check to see what the Christmas Masses would be in that area using the listed websites to ascertain the times, etc. I have posted a link here This is to an earlier post and is meant to be a listing of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day TLM Masses in this vicinity . If you are a Pastor, priest or deacon and have a Parish website, I invite you to post a Comment to this link above with full details .
