Feast of the Epiphany - Old St. James (Charles Town, WV) & Saint John the Baptist, Front Royal, VA

Just received this email: On Wednesday, January 6th, 2010, the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem will be celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany with a TLM Mass at 10:00 am at the Old St. James (Charles Town, WV). Additionally, they will celebrate another TLM Mass on the same day at St. John the Baptist in Front Royal, VA at 7:00 pm. Both Masses have been posted to the Events Calendar .

2010... Start Of A New Decade! Right?

As Ebeneezer Scrooge stated when confounded, "I shall retire to Bedlam!" The TV has been pronouncing 2010 as the start of a new decade . What then of these links found here and also here and finally here ? This logic of Mr. W.B. Heffernan is compelling : As we approach the end of the year 2009, we are seeing a repeat of the innumeracy that was so prevalent as we came to the end of 1999. To wit, the first of January 2010 is not the first day of a new decade, but the first day of the last year of the first decade of the 21st century, which began Jan. 1, 2001. Ours is a decimal system, based on the numbers 1 through 10, and when you count things – be they apples, fingers, cars or years – you begin with 1. This is because if you don’t have at least one, you have nothing to count. Calling 2009 the end of the decade is akin to telling a child to count his fingers as follows, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and telling him: “You have 10 fingers.” Mr. Petro goes into some fine

I have indicated that I use the Ordo of the F.S.S.P. and the Baronius Daily Missal exclusively. The F.S.S.P. Ordo is very reasonable in price and the Baronius Missal has an extensive list of Propers for Countries and/or Dioceses with additional Masses for such saints as Mother Cabrini, for example. The F.S.S.P. liturgical calendar is linked in the header of this blog and can be found here . This calendar (currently out-of-date) is used by the F.S.S.P.'s Seminary of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" in Denton, NE. Note that the F.S.S.P. bookstore is also linked on this site and has calendars and Ordos that are very modest in price. For those seeking the "poor man's" version , the ubiquitous Wikipedia has a calendar found here . This is "bare bones" since all the moveable feasts are missing!
