Visitors ask...TLM Materials for the Laity, Sung Latin Masses, TLM at Saint James in Charles Town, TLM on the Eastern Shore
I've staked out a lot of ground in this "Visitors ask" column and I hope I do a respectable job.
One question appearing relates to materials for the laity to learn more about the Latin Mass (or TLM). I can think of no better starting point then the SanctaMissa.org site of the St. John Cantius Society. It is a treasure trove and yes, there are DVDs available. See other sites within the right menu. There are a number of other sites such as the EWTN Latin Mass Resources site.
A second question concerns "Sung Masses." A Missa Cantata is not a common thing in this area but the Novus Ordo Latin Mass frequently is sung. See the right menu or the Frequently Asked Questions and note especially the Masses at St. Matthew's Cathedral in D.C. and the various Masses in northern Virginia. I believe more of them are sung on a regular basis (see Saint Benedict in Chesapeake, VA).
As for the TLM at Saint James the Greater in Charles Town, WV and the situation on the Eastern Shore, this is what I know. The Pastor of Saint James would like to begin a regular TLM but is not prepared to do it himself at this time. Therefore, this will remain an "occasional Mass" until the situation is remedied.
As for the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Diocese of Wilmington still is responsible for the TLM schedule. This does not fall within the AD of Baltimore so this is up to the Ordinary of Wilmington. I get posts asking about a TLM in Salisbury, MD but there isn't one. The Masses in Dover and Wilmington are the only one of which I am aware.
