The Catholic Review Online: How we got here

In his weekly column, " Thoughts on Our Church ," Archbishop Edwin O'Brien reviews the course of events by which Catholic politicians were able to be support abortion while claiming to be Catholic . Here is a portion of his column: In a first-rate address to more than a hundred bishops gathered last February for a workshop conducted by the National Catholic Bioethics Center, Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, referred to a Wall Street Journal opinion piece of January 7 of this year. Titled “How Support for Abortion Became Kennedy Dogma,” the article goes a long way in explaining how so many Catholic politicians, once pro-life, arrived at a deplorable compromise, abandoned their pro-life convictions, and even became, in too many instances, ardent “pro-choice” proponents. In 1964, Robert Kennedy was seeking a New York Senate seat and brother Ted was running for re-election to the United States Senate from Massachusetts. Liberal, well-funded pro-ab

I love the internet. While searching for something else, I stumbled upon this blog--" Vocation-Station "-- posted by a "hermit without a permit" who lists his address as Canada. Visitors ask...when is the Feast of the Ascension celebrated?

For those who used the venerable "Baltimore Catechism," the date was 40 days after Easter which meant "Ascension Thursday." Those who follow the Traditional Liturgical Calendar will celebrate the Feast tomorrow (thus the title of the posts referring to today as the Vigil of the Feast of the Ascension ). For the Ordinary Form in the U.S., it is not so simple . Here is the link to About.Catholicism.com . Note that : Answer: Ascension Thursday falls on May 21, 2009, and it will be celebrated on that day in the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and the state of Nebraska . In these Arch(Dioceses), this refers to the Ordinary Form Mass of the Latin Rite as well as the Usus Antiquior . However, the USCCB has decided to allow this Feast to be moved to the Sunday following (which is the Seventh Sunday after Easter) if the Ordinary decides this is beneficial. Therefore, most of the rest of the US commemorates this F
