Local TLM Masses for Michaelmas Day, September 29th, 2010
This was sent to me and I am posting it ahead of Wednesday. Note that the full program for the Mass at Saint Bernadette's is posted on the Special Events calendar.
The Propers for this Mass will be posted here tomorrow.
A reminder that Wednesday of this week is a first class feast day, the Dedication of Saint Michael the Archangel. In addition to Low Masses at 1) Holy Spirit in Annandale, Va. at 7:30 a.m.; 2) the Lourdes chapel at the Basilica Shrine in Washington, D.C. at 11:10 a.m.; and 3) Saint John’s in Front Royal, Va. at 7 p.m., there is the special Solemn High Mass at Saint Bernadette’s in Silver Spring, Md. at 7:30 p.m. on 29 September.
The Mass in Silver Spring will be offered by the pastor, Monsignor K. Bartholomew Smith, “for the intentions of the members of our Armed Forces serving overseas and in harm’s way.” (Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.) Monsignor Thomas Olszyk, judicial vicar of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, will be the homilist. Father John Caulfield of Immaculate Conception in Mechanicsville, Md. (formerly of Saint Bernadette’s) will serve as the deacon of the Mass. Father John Reutemann (newly ordained) of Sacred Heart in La Plata, Md. will serve as the subdeacon of the Mass. Chantry, a local professional choir, will sing sacred polyphony, with the program listed below.
Polyphonic propers and ordinary -- Missa O Michael (John Taverner, c.1490-1545)
Motets -- Duo seraphim (Jacob Handl, c.1550 – 1591); Factum est silentium (Richard Dering, c.1580-1630) & (outside Mass) Alleluia, I heard a voice (Thomas Weelkes, c.1575-1623).
The Propers for this Mass will be posted here tomorrow.
