Traditional Latin Mass in Maryland

I love some of the queries I find in the search box that landed people on this site! One visitor from Ohio was seeking information on Saint Charles Seminary in Maryland . The Archdiocese of Baltimore is privileged to have two major seminaries. The first is Saint Mary's Seminary on Charles Street in Baltimore located very near the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. The second seminary is Mount Saint Mary's Seminary located on the campus of Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland west of Frederick, MD. Saint Charles was a "minor seminary" located near Catonsville, MD on a beautiful rolling landscape. Here is a link from the National Register Listings in Maryland including a photo . The site was vacant for a time and is now the site of CharlesTown, a retirement community. If I recall correctly, the original Chapel is still present on that site. The site is not far from the campus of UMBC, the University of Maryland Baltimore County. D.v.

In a previous post, I mentioned the St. Pius V Lay Dominican Pro Chapter that meets at Mount de Sales . The internet thereby archived the term, " Mount de Sales Academy " and folks are coming to this site after a search using that "search string." Mount de Sales Academy is a parochial high school for women located in Catonsville, MD . The "college preparatory" high school is administered by the Dominican Sisters of the St. Cecilia Congregation. The "Dominican" connection is probably why the Pro Chapter meets at Mount de Sales. So, that completes the circle!

As a Thomist (at heart if not in fact!) I cannot in good conscience mention the Carmelites without mentioning the Dominicans. The next speaker is April 19th: Free lecture: "Truth, Truths, and Contemplation" will be presented by Rev. Kurt Pritzl, O.P., Ph.D., the Dean of the School of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America. The talk will focus on our ability to know the truth through an intellect fundamentally contemplative in nature. It will consider how contemplation approaches Truth (not the "truths" of moral relativism) in a large and comprehensive sense through the consideration of particular truths and what is claimed to be true. The talk will also reflect on the Dominican mission to contemplate and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Please join

A good friend sent this email out today: There are several groups in Maryland seeking to obtain a Traditional Latin Mass in their locales: Frederick, Westminster/Manchester, Catonsville, and on the Eastern Shore. The group on the Eastern Shore has organized and just launched a website. Not much on this site (yet), but they are just getting formed. Please pray for all of these groups: so far, not much progress has been made, but we have not reached the Archbishop yet, who is reported to be favorable to the Traditional Latin Mass.
