Catholic Review Online: Divine Mercy Sunday is April 19

In a story dated today, George P. Matysek, Jr. gives a nice roundup of the Divine Mercy services scheduled for the Sunday after Easter : When St. Faustina Kowalska received revelations from Jesus over the course of her short life, the Polish nun reported that Christ frequently asked that a feast day be dedicated to Divine Mercy and that the feast be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Those requests became a reality in 2000 when Pope John Paul II established the feast of Divine Mercy as a way for believers to seek God’s mercy and forgiveness in a special way. Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday April 19 and many will also offer opportunities to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, participate in eucharistic adoration and pray the Divine Mercy novena. I have posted information on how to say the Chaplet and Novena , the beginning of the Novena which was today , and the Archdiocesan Divine Mercy Shrine which is Holy Rosary Parish .

Divine Mercy Parish - Divine Mercy Novena - Divine Mercy Sunday

As we enter the Triduum, I want to remind you that Divine Mercy Sunday is April 19th, the Sunday after Easter. For those who wish to recite the novena, it begins tomorrow on Good Friday . I posted links to the Chaplet itself and to the intentions of the nine-day novena in this post . Please state the intentions for the First Day tomorrow. Many parishes will have a Divine Mercy Service. One is being held at Saint Alphonsus Church, for example. However, the official Shrine for the Divine Mercy in the Archdiocese is Holy Rosary Parish . The Shrine will be the site of the Divine Mercy on the 19th. Please consult the website for the explanation of the miracle which occurred to Father Ronald Pytel which was instrumental in the sainthood of Sr. Faustina.

Divine Mercy Sunday (Sunday after Easter)

The Decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of May 5, 2000, which added this title to the Sunday after Easter ( "Low Sunday" or "Quasi Modo Sunday "), did not intend to leave this as an optional title. The requirements for this Feast of Divine Mercy are recounted here . Additional information can be found here on personal preparations . It is impossible to assemble a complete listing of Parishes which have the Divine Mercy liturgy . In most cases, the Divine Mercy liturgy is held after the last Mass on Sunday and is followed by Benediction. For that purpose, you will need to go to the Parish closest to you and to see the Bulletin for this coming Sunday for times. There are Divine Mercy Sunday liturgies scheduled at most major Cathedrals including that in Washington, DC and Baltimore. The National Shrine of the Grotto of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, MD also has a liturgy scheduled.
