Fr. Thomas Kocik posts a fascinating article on the "tensions" that exist between the Extraordinary and Ordinary Forms of the Mass . It seems we now have two principles in tension. On the one hand, there is (and has always been) the principle of obedience to liturgical norms. No priest, even if he be a bishop, may add, remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority. [4] Do we really want every priest to be permitted, ad libitum , to incorporate elements of the 1962 Missal into his celebration of the ordinary form of Mass?
