Monday of the Fifth Week of Easter - May 11th, 2009

The Mass Readings for the Ordinary Form today are found here . Notice that the Psalm Response is " Not to us, O Lord, but to your name give the glory." In the play, Henry V by William Shakespeare, King Henry, after the glorious triumph at Agincourt, bids his men to sing the "Te Deum" and "Non nobis ." The "Non nobis" in the King James Version was Psalm 115 while in the Vulgate it was Psalm 113:9. The Psalm response for today is thus, " non nobis Domine non nobis sed nomini tuo da gloriam " ( "Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name give glory"). Here is a beautiful and rousing example used in the movie of the Kenneth Branagh adaptation of Henry Vth , a marvelous film.

WDTPRS >> Ireland: International Liturgy Conference (“Benedict XVI and the Sacred Liturgy” to be held on Saturday, July 12, on Fota Island, a beautiful island in Cork Harbor, near Cobh (Queenstown), Ireland) Creative Minority Report >> Greatest Scenes on Film (okay, so if you like William Shakespeare, Henry the Vth, and Kenneth Branagh's acting, this is definitely in the top 10; I love the St. Cripin's speech, personally, and said so; I'd rate this a must buy DVD!)
