Orthodox Catholic Retreats and Missions: Fathers of Mercy

A frequent item in the search queue is "Retreats for men or women." Clearly, some of these are for the discernment of vocations. For others, it is simply the desire to get away and to become once more filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit. There are many good retreats that seem to make the rounds by "word of mouth." I once asked a friend for advice on a religious Order that gave excellent retreats, and his answer was, " The Fathers of Mercy ." As he said then, "they really 'bring it'." By that, I understood him to mean that they had the gift of those Orders that had a special charism for preaching the good news--the Gospel. The Fathers of Mercy is an Order located in Kentucky that preaches Parish Missions and that gives Retreats. If you have watched EWTN at all, you are familiar with this Order. Their Charism is described here , and their Apostolate here . This lists the Parish Missions scheduled in Kentucky (the Generalate)...

Visitors ask...Syro-Malabar Catholic Missions in the Area?

I have had this question on several occasions, but was unable to find anything on the Archdiocesan website. That would not be a surprise as I believe the Syro-Malabar Church falls under its own Bishop . With some searching, I found this is true and located in Chicago. With a bit of searching, I found a Syromalabar Mission of Baltimore at this website . This gives more explanation about the Syro-Malabar Church . And this link has the list of services and the location of the Church . The Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago has a list of Churches and Missions . Note that this list includes a Church in Hagerstown, MD but the website link directs one to a Parish in Ohio. St. Mary Catholic Church 224 W. Washington Street Hagerstown, MD 21740 Please inquire locally about this Mission in Hagerstown and whether it is still active.

Visitors ask...NFP Parish Missions

Okay, so I have to confess a "touch of fraud" ( mea maxima culpa ). I saw this as an ad in the latest edition of Homiletics and Pastoral Review and thought it was awesome. It is the same issue that carried this feature article by Thomas Storck . For $10 a year, how can you NOT afford to buy a subscription for your Pastor? This group of priests will come to your Parish and hold a Mission to preach on NFP . Note the Mission Schedule which has sites in Arlington and Springfield, VA in the upcoming weeks . There is even an online form to request that a Mission be held in YOUR Parish . Awesome!
