Update: Solemn Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary Form - Saturday, April 24th, Washington, D.C.

The Paulus Institute has updated their website . As reported by several blogs (WDTPRS, RORATE CÆLI & others) today, Tulsa Bishop Edward Slattery will celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in D.C. The following is taken from the Paulus Institute website : The Paulus Institute today is pleased to announce His Excellency Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa, Okla., has agreed to celebrate the first traditional Latin Solemn High Pontifical Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in nearly 50 years. WDTPRS >> 24 April: Pontifical TLM at the National Shrine in Washington, DC

Father John Zuhlsdorf has now posted a story on the Pontifical Mass coming to Washington, D.C. At 1:00 pm on 24 April at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC there is to be a Pontifical Mass celebrated by His Eminence Dario Card. Castrillon Hoyos, former President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. This will be the 5th anniversary of the election of His Holiness Benedict XVI . NLM: Full text of Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos address to the Latin Mass Society

Earlier today, Shawn Tribe of The New Liturgical Movement posted an article that emphasized that what Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos was stating was not a new or de novo juridical finding or decision . Instead, His Eminence was stating the overt will of Pope Benedict XVI as stated several times by the Cardinal himself as well as the Holy Father in the Motu Proprio . Here is the full transcript of his interview with a link to the homily given . The point of fact is, however, that those who do not follow the will of the Pope are depriving the faithful of the "Gregorian Rite" which is their heritage. Here is a part of his address which Mr. Tribe emphasized in bold. Let me say this plainly: the Holy Father wants the ancient use of the Mass to become a normal occurrence in the liturgical life of the Church so that all of Christ’s faithful – young and old – can become familiar with the older rites and draw from their tangible beauty and transcendence.
