Traditional Latin Mass in Maryland - New Blog Feature: Special Events Calendar

For some time, I've wondered how to integrate a calendar into this blog that would be of use for Special Events or non-recurring events . Usus Antiquior or Tridentine Masses scheduled weekly can be assembled in a menu ( SEE RIGHT MENU NAVBAR, for example ) and linked to Parish websites. However, what of the occasional special Mass, colloquium or musical event ? So many of these are missed when posted here unless someone knows of it in advance. The New Liturgical Movement has found a solution using a calendar embedded into their blog page . Events are self-reported and require approval by the moderator. This is a huge blog, however, affiliated with the CMAA, receives millions of "hits" and handles international events. So, the local may be lost in the shuffle. In the header to this blog, you will now see the following: Special Event Usus Antiquior Calendar for MD, DC, VA, DE, PA and WV (opens New Window) This calendar is one I've created for TLM events in t

INTROIT ¤ Isaias 66. 10, 11 [STATION AT THE HOLY CROSS AT JERUSALEM]  Laetare, Jerusalem: conventum facite omnes qui diligitis eam: gaudete cum laetitia, quia in tristitia fuistis: ut exsultetis, et satiemini ab uberibus consolationis vestrae. -- Laetatus sum in his, quae dicta sunt mihi: in domum Domini ibimus. V.: Gloria Patri . . . -- Laetare, Jerusalem . . . Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and come together all you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled from the breasts of your consolation. -- ( Ps. 121. 1). Traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine, Gregorian) for 4th Sunday of Advent, Christmas Vigil and Christmas

I am deeply indebted to the Traditional Latin Rite Missal Project for these TLM Propers maintained online . Fourth Sunday of Advent, Missa 'Rorate Caeli' Vigil Mass of Christmas or Christmas Eve, Missa 'Hodie Scietis' First Mass at Midnight, Missa 'Dominus Dixit' Second Mass at Dawn, Missa 'Lux Fulgebit' Third Mass during the Day, Missa 'Puer Natus Est' These Masses are not meant to completely replace a recent Missal as portions may not conform to Summorum Pontificum and its final stipulations. Another resource is Una Voce of Orange County (California) which has posted the Propers online from the Saint Andrew's Missal ( by permission; 1952 version ). The pages will need to be downloaded.

Visitors ask...Tridentine Mass, Latin Mass, Archdiocese of Baltimore (or the TLM or Usus Antiquior) in Baltimore or in Maryland

I thought I had covered this adequately, but it still appears in "search strings" in various forms and orders of words! Search engines are "tempermental!" Visitors often ask for the "Tridentine Mass" (or the "Latin Mass," or the "TLM," or " Usus Antiquior ," or "Extraordinary Form") in the Archdiocese of Baltimore (or even more generally, "in Baltimore" or "in Maryland"). Here is the scoop... The ONLY " TLM " or " Tridentine Mass " celebrated in the Archdiocese of Baltimore every Sunday and Holy Day is at Saint Alphonsus Church on Saratoga Street in the heart of Baltimore city. The Sunday TLM Mass there is at 11:30 AM. There is a weekly " Latin Novus Ordo Mass " celebrated at the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption nearby at 9:00 AM each Sunday. Please note that both of these Masses are to be found in the RIGHT MENU and are also contained in th

Visitors ask...Latin Mass...

A constant search string that places people on this blog is " Latin Mass " or derivatives thereof (" Latin Mass Parish ," for example). From that point on, problems seem to occur and the individual becomes lost. The Latin Mass can be the Latin " Novus Ordo " Mass (or Ordinary Form ) since the Missale Romanum (Roman Missal) that we use at Mass is in Latin but translated into the vernacular (i.e., English or Spanish). So, a Latin Mass could be one in the Ordinary Form recited in Latin. Such a one is to be found at the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM . The "other" Latin Mass has many names. The motu proprio , " Summorum Pontificum ," called it the Extraordinary Form . It has been known, however, as the Tridentine Mass , the Tridentine Latin Mass, the Pian Mass (for Pope Pius V) or the Usus Antiquior (if one wishes to denote its antiquity with modifications over the centuries). Why is the Latin Mass Important?

I received a query asking a simple question, "Why is the Latin Mass important?" That is the subject for tomes really, but here is a link to a marvelous little piece on the Una Voce website called " Treasures of the Mass ." The introduction to this page reads: The following text is from a booklet published by the Benedictine Nuns of Perpetual Adoration in the United States. It was not copyrighted at the time of publication, and so we making the text available once again here on the Web. It is hoped that you will find this essay on the meaning and beauty of the Traditional Mass as valuable as we do. We've found it to be one of the most suscinct descriptions of the Ancient Roman Rite we've yet seen. It is indeed one of the most succinct descriptions of the TLM you will find .

The Tridentine Mass: Latin Pronunciation, Canon, EWTN Televised Version of September 14, 2007

I have had posters looking to find the Tridentine ( Pian , Traditional Latin, Extraordinary Form , Usus Antiquior ) Mass, its pronunciation and even a video of a TLM being celebrated. The seekers simply want to listen to the Latin spoken in the Mass. Some of these links below (from the Latin Mass Society of Ireland) were posted within comments when Summorum Pontificum was first released as a story on Catholic World News Online . Note too that the Saint John Cantius Society has a beautiful tutorial and website and that a great deal of information is available on EWTN including full videos of televised Masses and other gems .
