Visitors ask...What is S.O.L.T.? Does it have the Latin Mass?

One great thing about having a blog "metered" is that you can tell what people are searching for. One perennial is the term, "S.O.L.T." which you may have seen after the name of Fr. John Corapi, the famous and moving speaker. S.O.L.T. stands for " Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity ." The S.O.L.T. website defines its apostolate and includes both Lay and Consecrated Members . The mission of its apostolates is defined here . Priests of S.O.L.T. are "Shepherds after my own heart ." The Formation program is described here , and the General Priest Council is shown here . The Society is not defined by the TLM Mass, although it is quite possible that some priests celebrate the Extraordinary Form. If you are interested, please contact them!

The Curt Jester: Burke's efforts lead to biggest Catholic ordination class in decades

The Curt Jester has a story today on Archbishop Raymond Burke and the success he has had in vocations . The story is from the St. Louis Today and concerns Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. Don't miss it; the story of "the walks" is priceless. Always happy to report "great news!"

Catholic Review Online: Archdiocese launches new vocations Web site

George P. Matysek, Jr. of Catholic Review Online has posted a great story on a new vocations website initiated by the Archdiocese of Baltimore . Here is a snippet of the article: The majority of men who contact the Archdiocese of Baltimore for information about the priesthood do it through e-mail. So it made sense for the archdiocese to have a top-notch Web site to be more proactive in reaching out to future priests through the World Wide Web, according to Father Gerard Francik, vocations director. The archdiocese has just launched a new Web site, www.becomeapriest.org , devoted to providing information about discernment, the priestly life and applying for the priesthood. The site replaces an older one that was much less interactive, Father Francik said. The new site features profiles of current seminarians, resources for discernment, advice for parents, prayers, links to men’s and women’s religious communities and video of seminarians talking about their vocation. Four seminarians –

Catholic Review Online: two stories of interest

The Catholic Review is the Archdiocesan newspaper of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The online edition carries two stories of interest : Cindy Wooden reports that the liberalization of the Tridentine Mass is bearing fruit . The story deals with the interview of Cardinal Castrillon-Hoyos to L'Osservatore Romano widely reported on traditional blogs. George P. Matysek, Jr. reports on a tour by Archbishop O'Brien through the Carroll County area . His Excellency praised the Eucharistic Adoration that is prominent at some parishes such as Saint John's in Westminster and called for an increase in religious vocations.

The Mountain Echo: Seminary life attracts students

The Mountain Echo is the campus newspaper for Mount Saint Mary's University . Mount Saint Mary's is fairly unique in being both a University and also the location of a major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Baltimore . On March 13th, the Seminary at "the Mount" opened its doors to interested students. Irina Kuchevski posted this story today . Here is a brief snippet: Fr. Leo also discussed finding an order to prayers and the four pillars that are followed by the seminarians. The four pillars are spiritual, pastoral, human and intellectual. A question that seemed to be on everyone's minds was how a man learns to be a parish priest. The process of becoming a parish priest requires being sent on location. Monsignor Swetland emphasized the importance of forming priests that are well trained in the understanding of human nature. Each person gets further, beyond justice to mercy. Swetland also mentioned the process of intellectual formation that encompasses languages

Ignatius Insight Scoop: By The Numbers | Priestly Vocations in America: Recent Trends

Ignatius Insight Scoop has a post by Carl Olson that summarizes a fascinating and yet sobering article by Jeff Ziegler on religious vocations in the United States . The post is a summary of an article from Catholic World Report which is very in-depth. In culling through the article, one paragraph jumps out and it was mentioned by several commentators on the Insight Scoop blog: Echoing the comments of other bishops and vocation directors, Paterson's Bishop Serratelli tells CWR , "God has been good to us. In the last three years, we have earnestly begged him for an increase of vocations. We instituted a pastoral initiative in all the parishes on all vocations, with a special emphasis on priesthood and the consecrated life… We have encouraged prayer by everyone, especially prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Where Jesus is loved and adored in the Eucharist, vocations follow ." That sort of makes sense, doesn't it? If we all kneel before Jesus in the Holy Eucharist a

Interest in the priesthood is on the upswing, says Baltimore archdiocesan vocations director

George P. Matysek Jr. reports in the January 7th on-line edition of the The Catholic Review that vocations are on the rise in Baltimore: When Father Gerard Francik recently interviewed a 19-year-old man who was thinking about becoming a priest, the archdiocesan vocations director asked him to talk about his prayer life. The former high school football player told Father Francik how he faithfully makes a holy hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament, attends Mass or Communion services, prays the rosary and observes the liturgy of the hours – every day. “I was just blown away,” said Father Francik. “He was very dedicated to his faith.” That young man is typical of the kind of people who are stepping forward to become priests these days, according to Father Francik. Many are still in their teens, and they show unbridled enthusiasm for living out their religious convictions, he said. “This generation has a different view,” said Father Francik. “They’re much more service-oriented. They’re

Kenrick-Glennon Seminary to Expand

Great news from the Archdiocese of St. Louis, MO posted by Saint Louis Catholic! There are reliable indications that the Archbishop will soon announce a major expansion of the facilities of the Archdiocesan Seminary. The seminary's enrollment increased this year by 50%, with all signs pointing to another increase in enrollment next year. The seminary has simply run out of room. Architectural plans have been submitted to His Grace for approval. A new residence hall is certainly needed, and perhaps a new library and other facilities are in the works. This is great news, of course. But another reason to be grateful is the faithful, orthodox and pastoral care of the Archbishop that has led to the increase in the number of young men entering Kenrick-Glennon. As has been proven all over the world, when the Diocesan Ordinary teaches and defends the Catholic faith, Diocesan vocations increase. Dissent and ambiguity lead to dwindling numbers of priests. Where the fullness of faith is held,
