Breaking - NLM: Extraordinary Form, Basilica of the National Shrine, Upper Church

Note: This post was edited to avoid confusion. Hat Tip to Matthew! Last year, I received email word (which proved to be unconfirmed and erroneous) that Dario Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos would celebrate a TLM at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C . This proved to be incorrect which was embarrassing for me. The NLM confirms tonight, however, that the Cardinal President Emeritus of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei , will celebrate the TLM on April 24th, 2010 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C at 1:00 PM in the Upper Church . The calendar for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception carries the announcement for this event . This is an event of momentous occasion and I pray that the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is filled to capacity. Laus Deo!

St. Mary Mother of God, Washington, DC - Friday Low Mass Added

I received an email from a friend and this portion is relevant: Fr. Harris has added a public 8 am Low Mass to the schedule on Fridays. It is on an experimental basis and the decision to continue it will be based on attendance. Please, spread the news to everyone you think might be interested. The first Mass will be this (First) Friday, Dec. 4th. At St. Mary Mother of God 5th and H Sts. Washington, DC I don't usually add weekly Masses to the TLM Mass List in the right menu, but I will be adding this one.

Catholic Review Online: New center aims to reintroduce St. Thomas Aquinas to modern world

The Catholic Review posted a story by David Gibson of Catholic News Service on the Dominican House of studies in D.C . The Dominican house is a landmark of Michigan Avenue in northeast Washington, adjacent to The Catholic University of America. When construction of the new building commenced, some surely wondered whether plans to attach it directly to the Dominicans’ much older building could succeed without damaging the property’s overall beauty and balance. But the architects succeeded well at blending the exteriors of the old and new. They excelled at perhaps an even higher level on the interior where one encounters inviting, contemporary classrooms and a library whose grand, impressive windows not only allow the sunlight in, but marvelously frame the view across the road of university buildings and lawns, and the famed Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The new center houses the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception, conducted by the friars of

Finding a Mass or Passion Service During Holy Week in the Maryland Area: How to Proceed

Okay, if you have landed here, you are in the right place, but you will have to do this logically... First, you need to find a Parish. Then, you need to call the Rectory and find out when Masses or Services are held; many have recordings at this time of year. This is not listed in any master database...sorry, I wish I could say otherwise. In the Maryland, DC, Arlington area: First, if you are looking for the Extraordinary Form Mass, the Usus Antiquior , the Tridentine, a Latin Mass or the Gregorian Rite, those Holy Week listings are here (and will be updated all week). If you are simply looking for a "Novus Ordo" or "regular" Sunday Mass (or Passion Service), proceed as follows: Near Baltimore and not near D.C. or its adjacent Maryland suburbs, find a Parish here . In Maryland but on the Eastern Shore near Salisbury or Ocean City, go here . In D.C. or along the Western shore of Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay, find a Parish here . South of D.C. and across the

Visitors ask...a Dominican Mass or Parish in Maryland?

The search index has now turned to the "Dominicans." It is not widely known in Maryland that the Dominican Priory of the Immaculate Conception is located in Washington, D.C . This link shows the Liturgical Horarium during the school year . The Dominican life is summarized here , and the Friars and Brothers in residence are listed here . If you wish to attend the Sunday Mass, I'd call ahead. The Third Order or Lay Dominicans consists of Chapters and this link shows you where to find a local Chapter of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph (Eastern U.S.). Region 5 constitutes D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The Pope Pius V Pro-Chapter mentioned once before has a website here . Here is a link to the Dominican Liturgy . I am not certain this is celebrated at the Priory routinely. Fr. Thompson, O.P., is on the blog team at The New Liturgical Movement and publicizes when a special Mass will be celebrated. His link is located in the Right Menu . Hope this help
