WDTPRS: Benedict XVI Discourse from the White House

Fr. Zuhlsdorf of What Does the Prayer Really Say has a nice commentary on the Holy Father's talk from the White House this morning . He also has some links to several fine "Podcasts" for those interested.

Whispers in the Loggia: From the Plane

Rocco Palmo of Whispers in the Loggia has a really nice story about the trans-Atlantic flight and the "press conference" which took place . The National Catholic Reporter's, John Allen, has a full transcript which he has posted (link in the Whispers link). One comment made is of interest to readers in the Archdiocese of Baltimore: Benedict XVI: My trip has basically two objectives. The first is a visit to the church in America, in the United States, and naturally also the entire country. There’s a particular motive, which is that 200 years ago the Archdiocese of Baltimore was elevated as a metropolitan archdiocese, and at the same moment two or three other dioceses were created … Philadelphia, Boston, Louisville. It’s a great jubilee for the church in the United States. It’s a moment of reflection on the past, but also on the future, on how to respond to the great challenges of our time that will present themselves in the future. Read more here .

Why is the Latin Mass Important?

I received a query asking a simple question, "Why is the Latin Mass important?" That is the subject for tomes really, but here is a link to a marvelous little piece on the Una Voce website called " Treasures of the Mass ." The introduction to this page reads: The following text is from a booklet published by the Benedictine Nuns of Perpetual Adoration in the United States. It was not copyrighted at the time of publication, and so we making the text available once again here on the Web. It is hoped that you will find this essay on the meaning and beauty of the Traditional Mass as valuable as we do. We've found it to be one of the most suscinct descriptions of the Ancient Roman Rite we've yet seen. It is indeed one of the most succinct descriptions of the TLM you will find .
