TLM Mass at Saint Bartholomew's Church, Manchester: Follow-Up

My faithful correspondent from Carroll County wrote to inform me about the TLM Mass celebrated by Fr. Michael Roach at St. Bartholomew's Parish in Manchester, MD on Pentecost Sunday. Here is part of the email: The Mass (at St. Bartholomew's on Pentecost) was a wonderful success - the Holy Spirit just wouldn't let us down. Our pastor was expecting between 50-100 people and we had at least 250! Everything went smoothly and the congregation was very excited about what they saw and heard. I felt privileged to sing with the schola and, while we weren't perfect, we were better than any of us had expected! The Holy Spirit again! Father is talking about having another Traditional Mass ... I was not able to take any pictures but some of my friends did and I am trying to round those up. I can forward them to you if you'd like (please!). We are very proud of our pastor. He has worked very hard to bring the TLM to us... We have also been encouraging fol

Visitors ask...College of Notre Dame and TLM, Shepherdstown, WV

A visitor is seeking information on the College of Notre Dame. This causes some problems because the more famous "University located in South Bend, IN" is liable to pop up unless you use the correct search string. Here is the link . It is located just north of Loyola College on Charles Street in Baltimore on a beautiful campus . Another visitor appears to be searching for info on the TLM at Saint James the Greater in Charles Town, WV. The seeker is using Shepherdstown in the search which is nearby it seems. Here is the latest info . The next TLM is this Sunday at 4:00 PM according to my source.

Musica Sacra: A Vital Resource

You may have seen the link to MusicaSacra in the right menu margin . Just what is MusicaSacra? Let me post some information from their website and you'll soon see! Q: I’m a Catholic musician and I should know chant. I know that. I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t even read the notation! A: That’s one of the reasons we hold the colloquium. Most participants don’t have prior experience in chant notation. We have classes that start at the very beginning. You will not feel intimidated at all. Quite the reverse: people here love to teach and inspire. Q: Goodness, I don’t know how any of this music even goes. I’ve heard bits and pieces but I will know far less than everyone else. A: This is a journey for all of us. There is way too much music for people to get to know in their lifetimes. In some way, all of our knowledge is spotty, and we all have to start somewhere. The experts at the Colloquium love nothing more than to teach. Q: I’m looking at the musical lineup and I ca

Decent Films Guide by Steven D. Greydanus: "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" (2008)

Steven D. Greydanus posts his review of " The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian " from a review first appearing in the National Catholic Register . While the film gets a decided "thumbs up," Mr. Greydanus points out some divergence from the C.S. Lewis' book. It is worth reading this review !

Visitors ask...Monastery, Salisbury, MD?

A persistent visitor has been seeking a "monastery" in "Salisbury, MD" which is on Maryland's Eastern Shore. To see if there was one, I first went to the right menu and clicked the link to FAQs . This took me to the FAQs post. Then, I looked at the last item, #4, which lists Religious Orders. The Religious Life Directory is what I wanted . I clicked the link and went to the "geographical menu" listing for Maryland which is here . T his lists every "religious house" in the State of Maryland . I found that Salisbury, MD has a listing for the following: Jesus and Mary. Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary , P.O. Box 1755, Salisbury, MD 21802. [W] There is a website address for the Joseph House, a Non-Profit Organization run by the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary . I hope this helps. This is the only "monastery" I can find unless it is an Eastern Catholic entity.

NLM: Osservatore Romano on New FSSP Rome Parish

Gregor Kollmorgen has translated an important story from " L'Osservatore Romano " concerning the new F.S.S.P. Parish established in Rome . The full title of Kollmorgen's post is "Osservatore Romano on New FSSP Rome Parish - An Example for Dioceses the World Over." This paragraph emphasizes the importance of the story: "This is an act disposed by the Pope for the diocese of Rome which has a value in itself, in the progressive path of putting into application the motu proprio on the Roman liturgy before the reform carried out in 1970," explains the president of the Vatican commission which deals with relations with the faithful attached to the previous Latin liturgical tradition, especially those so far in various ways related to the fraternity founded by Msgr Marcel Lefebvre who wish to remain united to the Successor of Peter in the Catholic Church. But - adds Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos - "the realization of a personal parish also has an
