Jeffrey Tucker of The New Liturgical Movement puts the issue of new musical settings into perspective with regard to the copyright and taxation standards in place with ICEL. It is an essay well worth reading. The letter from CDWDS specifies that new musical settings are now needed.

To Ponder....Eschatology

Earlier today, a blog posited that other blogs stayed away from this subject as if it were "the third rail." As fools rush in where angels fear to tread, here is a reading list for your enlightenment which is by no means exhaustive. Amazon.com could provide a library for one to study: "Eschatology: Death and Eternal Life" (Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger) The Last Things: Judgment, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory (Fr. John Corapi, S.O.L.T.) Eschatology (William G. Most; EWTN, 1994) Life Everlasting (Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange; EWTN) The Church Fathers on Purgatory (Phil Porvaznik; Phatmass) Cathechism of the Catholic Church (Section 2, Article 7) Eschatological Fact and Fiction (Carl Olson) Hell & The Devil/ Eschatology (Last Things) (Coming Home Network)

The Catholic Thing: Godless Democracy by Ralph McInerny

The Catholic Thing has only been launched a short time, but it is proving to be an impressive forum for reasoned thought. Today, the famed writer, Ralph McInerny, has a brilliant essay . He says at one point: Justice Kennedy’s opinion in the Casey decision proclaimed that each of us has a constitutional right to define life, the universe, good or evil, as we wish, and any attempt to abridge that right has to be struck down. This is often called the “mystery” passage. There is nothing at all mysterious about. It is, of course, incoherent. Could there be a society in which some approved of murder and others condemned it as if this were merely a clash of free and equally tenable opinions? If there were, it could be called Godless Democracy and there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between it and Godless Communism. Need I suggest you read his essay ?
