Saint Bartholomew's Church, Manchester, Maryland - Special TLM January 1st, 2009

This note came from my email friend at Saint Bartholomew's Church in Manchester, MD: Saint Bartholomew's in Manchester, MD will be celebrating Mass in the Extraordinary Form on January 1, 2009 (The Circumcision of Our Lord) at 2 pm in our new church on Rt. 30. All are most welcome. We had a great response to our last effort on the Feast of Christ the King with about 100 in attendance. We are grateful to our pastor, Fr. Michael Roach, for being so willing to make this Mass available. I hope this Mass gets a great response!

Mountain Echo: Mount celebrates traditional Latin Mass

Kala Garry posts an article in the "Mountain Echo"--the campus newspaper of Mount Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD--on the Traditional Mass celebrated on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception as experienced from a "student's-eye" view. The article documents the experience of the Usus Antiquior from those who may never have seen one previously. While mostly unfamiliar with the EF, many Mount students joined the seminarians for the special celebration. Having grown up with the Norvus Ordo, most were lost between the quiet Latin prayers of the priest and the beautiful parts sung by the choir. Regardless, the reverence of the Mass brought many into a high form of worship. "It was an incredible experience," reflects sophomore Tricia Lester. "I don't even know how to put it into words. The reverence of the prayers and the solemness of the Mass gave me a deeper appreciation of the miracle that occurs at every Eucharist. Plus, the homily wa

Breviarum Romanum | Extraordinary Form Mass on 12 December in Silver Spring, MD

Over the past year, I have had many "search strings" for Masses at Saint Bernadette's Church in Silver Spring, MD . Unfortunately, I had no "contacts" in that area (ADW). Thanks to my fellow blogger, MCITL, I now have someone I can contact regarding this. Thanks for the tip! Note that Breviarum Romanum is reporting a Mass for tomorrow, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, at St. Bernadette's Church at 7:30 PM . Please check there for more information! H/T MCITL

Washington Times | Seminary discovers Latin | Julia Duin

Julia Duin of the Washington Times has a wrap-up (dated the 11th) of the Usus Antiquior celebrated at the Mount Saint Mary's Chapel of the Immaculate Conception on Monday-- the Feast of the Immaculate Conception . All of the celebrants and participants are clearly identified. Please read this very nice story. Perhaps it would be in order to write a note of "thanks" to Monsignor Steven Rohlfs, the Seminary's Rector, for this tremendous grace. The Mass was glorious! In light of the story, it might also be in order to inform Monsignor just how long YOU personally, have searched for the TLM in this or in another (Arch)Diocese, and to thank him for educating priests in this treasure of our Faith. He would appreciate the notes, I am sure. Laus Deo!

Catholic Review Online: Courage

In an article dated today, His Excellency, Archbishop Edwin O'Brien discusses "Courage" in his weekly column, "Thoughts on Our Church ." To cite just a part of this column: With Father John Harvey, O.S.F.S., and Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R., I was involved in the founding of Courage, a support group for Catholics with same-sex attractions who seek to live chaste lives. Off to a small start in 1980, Courage now has branches in 95 U.S. dioceses as well as in 12 other countries. The strength it continues to lend individuals and their families is a sure sign of God’s grace at work. At present, we have EnCourage, a group that meets regularly in our Archdiocese. I wrote about it in this column in March after celebrating Mass for its members. EnCourage supports relatives and loved ones of individuals who are involved in same-sex relationships. These EnCourage members are often parents who have homosexually active children and see the sad gap between them and our Churc
