Local TLM Masses on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, June 11th

I received this email from my friend in the Traditional Latin Mass Group in Arlington and wish to pass it on: Friday (11 June) is the First Class Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There are diocesan Masses in the region: 1) a Low Mass at 8 AM at Saint Mary's in Washington, D.C.; and 2) a Low Mass at 7:30 PM at Saint Louis in the Fairfax County section of Alexandria, Va. There will also be a High Mass on Friday at St. John the Baptist in Front Royal, Va at 7 PM. One may gain a plenary indulgence Friday, under the usual conditions, by saying the Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus publicly in front of the Blessed Sacrament. On Saturday...a reminder! There will NOT be a 12 noon Mass at Holy Spirit in Annandale (it resumes on the 19th), but there will be a special 2 PM High Mass at Saint Bernadette's in Silver Spring, Md. Thanks to Ken!

This link goes to the website of the Archdiocese of Baltimore . It is for Sunday Masses. All you need to do is to specific a "TIME" in the toggle box and the Parish having that Mass will show up. I would check to be sure that it is being held on Easter, but I am betting it will be. This goes to the Archdiocese of Washingto n and this goes to the Diocese of Arlington . Both have similar search boxes for Mass Times. Happy Easter and I hope you make Mass!

Visitors ask...Saint Bernadette Church in the ADW (or any Parish in the Archdiocese of Washington)

Saint Bernadette's Parish in Silver Spring is a perennial "search" to land on this blog. I must get at least 2 hits a week searching for it. First, it is in the Archdiocese of Washington so the trick is to look up all the Parishes in that Archdiocese. So, simply click here . Note that the Parishes are divided into Washington or Maryland (as the ADW takes in areas of both). Checking the Maryland Parishes , it is found here under Saint Bernadette .

In Search Of: Evening Sunday Masses, Washington, D.C.

I have had a D.C. "visitor" who is seeking a Mass time "in the evenings." I don't know if this refers to any evening in the week or for Sunday, in particular. I also don't know if the individual is looking for something near D.C. or anywhere in Maryland! I checked out MassTimes.org (see it in the right menu also), used "Silver Spring, MD" as the central locus and looked for "Sunday" Mass times. I took only those in the evening. Here is what I found for Sundays : 5:00 PM St. Francis of Assisi St. John Baptist de la Salle St. Michael the Archangel St. Camillus Franciscan Monastery 5:30 PM The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament 6:00 PM Our Lady of Victory St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish St. James St. Gabriel St. John The Baptist St. Andrew Apostle Shrine of the Sacred Heart St. Jude 7:00 PM University of MD Catholic Student Center St. Michael the Archangel 7:30 PM St. Thomas Apostle 9

AmericanPapist:: Pope trip: Friday Mar 28 Roundup

Thomas Peters of AmericanPapist does a really nice job of gathering five stories germane to the Holy Father's visit in April . One is the story posted below from The New Liturgical Movement . Highly recommended !

First Things Blog: Coming to a Town Near You

Joseph Bottum of the Catholic Magazine, First Things , reminds us that he will be in Washington, D.C. on March 17th, 2008 : [...] On Monday, March 17, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Called “Living with the Dead: Why Cities Need Cemeteries and Nations Need Memorials,” it’s at 7:00 pm in the ICC auditorium . Cosponsored by the Tocqueville Forum at Georgetown and National Civic Art Society , the lecture is a specific application to civil architecture and urban design of the work I did in “ Death & Politics ,” the long essay on the centrality of grief to political theory that appeared this summer in First Things . The respondents will be National Endowment for the Arts chairman Dana Gioia, the New Criterion ’s Roger Kimball, and the architectural historian Denis McNamara. A reception will follow the lecture, I’m told. The events is open to the public, and no RSVP is needed, although you might drop them an email to say you’re coming, so they can get a rough count for t

AmericanPapist: Report: Abp. Donald Wuerl at DC Theology on Tap

Thomas Peters, son of Canonist Edward Peters, is studying for his Master's in Theology in Washington, D.C. He writes an interesting blog called American Papist: Not Your Average Catholic . Last night, he attended a "Theology on Tap" at which Archbishop Donald Wuerl was guest speaker. Please read on her e . Note, Tom said "the fire marshall would not have been pleased." My translation: HUGE CROWD.

DC Catholic Now Added to the Blogroll

I am happy to learn that I have a compatriot in D.C. who has added me to the blog's blogroll. I am most happy to return the favor. DC Catholic is the blog to visit for information on the Nation's Capital, the Archdiocese of Washington and especially for the visit of His Holiness this Spring. Check it out! Hat tip, DC!

Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Washington

In checking my Sitemeter blog logs for yesterday, I was stunned to see the number of individuals seeking Lenten Services in either the Ordinary form or the Extraordinary form for Ash Wednesday. Then, I clicked the link on my blogroll for MassTimes.org , the ubiquitous repository of Masses and the Sacraments around the world, and found that their server was then and still is down. For those locally (and the logs indicated many of you who visited were local) I have added hyperlinks to the blog menu to the Archdiocese of Baltimore and for the Archdiocese of Washington . Both Archdioceses have amazingly user-friendly websites that list parishes, their locations and even hyperlinks to the Parishes. Some of the parishes post their bulletins and these had great details on Lenten services, and Ash Wednesday specifically. Hope this helps you in the future! +A.M.D.G.+

Campus Ministry Endorses Celebration of Latin Mass

In response to student requests, the TLM was initiated at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. twice each week and the number of attendees is increasing. The TLM is now being celebrated in the Crypt and the Office of Campus Ministry has agreed to regularize this arrangement: Copley Crypt was chosen over Dahlgren due to its architecture and the placement of the altar, said Fr. Stephen Fields, S.J., one of the priests who say the Tridentine Masses. The Mass is celebrated on campus according to directives outlined in Pope Benedict XVI’s letter “Summorum Pontificum” last year. “The Archdiocese of Washington is working on other norms to be followed for the celebration of this form of the Mass, and our celebration of it will fully comply with these,” Fields said. The Tridentine Mass is now celebrated in Copley Crypt on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Fields and Fr. William Farge, S.J., currently preside over the Mass, and Fr. John Siberski, S.J., and Fr. James Duff
