H.E. Michael Angelo Saltarelli - Eighth Bishop of Wilmington (1995-2008)

Carl Olson of Ignatius Insight and Rocco Palmo of Whispers in the Loggia both report the passing of His Excellency, Bishop Michael Saltarelli, former Bishop of Wilmington, DE. He will be sorely missed by his neighbors in Baltimore and by the entire Pro Life community. Requiescat in pace!

Catholic Diocese of Wilmington - Litany of Saint Thomas More

In the United States, the Church today celebrates the optional feasts of St. Paulinus, St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher. Several years ago, Bishop Saltarelli of Wilmington asked that the Litany of St. Thomas More be used in the Diocese. Bishop Malooly has moved the Prayer to the Diocesan Website. I pray this Litany each evening and commend it to you as well. Saint Thomas More (the subject of the movie, "A Man for All Seasons") was a Bishop, Martyr and is the Patron Saint of Statesman, Politicians and Lawyers. The litany is found here , but I have taken the liberty to post it below:   Litany of St. Thomas More, Martyr and Patron Saint of Statesmen, Politicians and Lawyers V. Lord, have mercy R. Lord have mercy V. Christ, have mercy R. Christ have mercy V. Lord, have mercy R. Lord have mercy V. Christ hear us R. Christ, graciously hear us V. St. Thomas More, Saint and Martyr, R. Pray for us (Repeat after each invocation) St. Thomas More, Patron of Statesmen,...

TLM Coming to the Eastern Shore of Maryland? Possibly...

One of the most persistent searches I have on this blog is for the TLM somewhere on the Eastern Shore of Maryland on a regular basis. This is the Diocese of Wilmington. Tonight I received an email from my TLM friend that I will "redact": Fr. M. will be celebrating the [Traditional] Mass on the first Sunday of each month at Holy Redeemer Church in Delmar, 3:00 pm , beginning February 1, 2009. If this proves to be successful, I believe the long range plan is to make it an every Sunday Mass that would include holydays. If I learn more, I will put a link in and update this post. In the meantime, I would think your prayers for this are warranted. I'd also disseminate this news by email to those interested and mark this on your calendars! D.v. More info can be found here .

Catholic Review Online: Delaware bishops have been low-key with Biden’s church involvement

The Catholic Review carries an article by Patricia Zapor of the Catholic News Service concerning the "low key" role Bishops have played regarding Senator Joseph Biden . Bishop W. Francis Malooly of Baltimore is to take over the Diocese of Wilmington on September 8th. Please pray for the Bishop! He needs all the prayers and support that he can receive!

Whispers in the Loggia: Wilmington in the Wings: First See Prelate Headed for First State

Rocco Palmo of Whispers in the Loggia releases some of his usually reliable "insider information." He anticipates the appointment soon of the Western Vicar of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, H.E. Auxiliary Bishop W. Francis Malooly, as Bishop of Wilmington, DE . We'll need to see next week if it is really official.
