Visitors ask...Opus Dei - FSSP - Latin Mass? I'm confused!

I get many searches that show evidence of a misunderstanding between "Opus Dei," "F.S.S.P." and "Latin Mass." So, searches for "Opus Dei Latin Mass" are not uncommon. Here is the link to Opus Dei in the U.S. with all the information you could wish. It is a "personal Prelature" and has nothing to do with the Latin or Traditional Mass. Its founder is a canonized saint, Saint Josemaria Escriva . Is it possible that an Opus Dei priest could say the TLM? Yes! See below! The F.S.S.P. is actually shorthand for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter or, in Latin, Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri (thus the contraction, FSSP !). This Fraternity says Mass according to the Missal of 1962 (the Traditional Mass, Extraordinary Form or Usus Antiquior to use several acronyms). This group DOES celebrate the "Latin Mass." It is only one of several groups that use this Missal including the Institute of Christ the King Sov

Visitors ask...FSSP (Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter)...

Visitors often search for issues relating to the FSSP. First, let me indicate that I have several links in the Blogroll and Favorite Websites section of the right menu including: The FSSP North America Home Page Apostolates (Parishes) of the FSSP in the US and Canada The Liturgical Calendar for the Extraordinary Form for 2009 Some are seeking a directory of Retreats--either at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary or other locations. My personal recommendation for rock solid information is to receive the FSSP newsletter which can be obtained by filling out this form . Let me also call your attention to a nice assortment of items relating to the Latin Mass, Bibles, Religious Books, etc. the proceeds of which assist the Seminary. Those and other items can be found here . I note that the 2009 Ordo has just arrived.

WDTPRS >> D. of Tuscon: ICK’s 13th apostolate

Fr. John Zuhlsdorf reports that the Diocese of Tucson, AZ has invited the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest to shepherd a Parish in their community . This marks the 13th apostolate for the ICK. The F.S.S.P. is also continuing to expand into new territory as the list of its Apostolates demonstrates. Quo vadis?

Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary - Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, International Seminary, North America

It has dawned on me that with all the interest in the F.S.S.P., I have never done a post on the Seminary in Denton, NE itself! Here is the link to Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary . Some of the links found on the site include: Seminary News (with ample photos!) Vocations (requirements, application process, visiting the Seminary) Chapel Construction (again, with ample photos!) I cannot attest to this as nobody seems to have a transcript as yet. This is based on one post only!

Visitors ask...Solemn High Mass at Saint Alphonsus Church with Rev. Jonathan Romanoski, FSSP Celebrating

Apparently, even with all the coverage this news has received (on WDTPRS and on this blog on Divine Mercy Sunday ), some are not finding the full details. On Sunday, June 8th at 11:30 AM, Reverend Jonathan Romanoski, F.S.S.P. will celebrate a Solemn High Mass at Saint Alphonsus Church on Saratoga Street in Baltimore, MD . Here is a quote from the weekly bulletin written by Rev. Msgr. Arthur Bastress, Pastor of Saint Alphonsus: Let us warmly welcome Reverend Jonathan Romanoski as WE CELEBRATE WITH HIM AT the 11:30 a.m. Tridentine Latin Rite. Please join us after Mass in the courtyard for a reception in his honor and to extend our good wishes! I hope that a huge crowd can attend this Mass. Watching Fr. Romanoski being ordained was incredible. It will be a great privilege to see him celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Usus Antiquior . Laus Deo!
