Traditional Latin Mass in Maryland

The Latin word for " magnificat " is "magnificat." It means "it magnifies" and arises from the response of Our Blessed Mother to Saint Elizabeth during the Visitation. Here is a portion from the Vulgate : "Et ait Maria: [ Magnificat anima mea Dominum: et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo. " (Luke 1: 46-47) It begins the Canticle of Mary and begins [And Mary said]: "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour." It is taken from the Gospel of Saint Luke. It gives its name to the Magnificat, the devotional reader mentioned yesterday.

An international visitor asked for "early morning prayers to Mary, the Mother of God." This is a key part of the Militia of the Immaculata, a Franciscan charism begun by St. Maximilian Kolbe and several seminarians and modeled after the beautiful consecration of St. Louis de Montfort. Each morning begins with a short "renewal" of this consecration which essentially makes your entire day a prayer lifted up to Jesus through Mary. Here are two other nice sites I found. The Divine Office is also known as the Breviary , the Liturgy of the Hours , the Office , and by countless other names.
