NCR Cafe.org: Postmortem of the bishops' meeting; U.S. relations with the Holy See

I was not able to watch much of the USCCB Conference but do respect the opinion of John L. Allen, Jr. Here is his "postmortem" on the Plenary Meeting . It will be interesting to watch to what degree Archbishop Burke (soon to be Cardinal Burke, I pray) has on this situation with his increasing influence in Rome. To say that he knows the situation in the U.S. in detail is an understatement.

John L. Allen, Jr. in his weekly column "All Things Catholic" does a wonderful essay on Pope Paul VI . Here is a snippet from his column: "Bit by bit," Benedict said, "as our view of the past expands and our understanding deepens, the merit of Paul VI in presiding over the council, leading it happily to its conclusion, and then governing the turbulent post-conciliar phase, appears ever greater -- indeed, I would say, almost superhuman." Thus RAI, the Italian national TV network, may have its title: Paolo VI: Il papa sovrumano ("Paul VI, The Superhuman Pope.") The term seems a fitting act of justice on behalf of Paul VI, who began to be enveloped in neglect almost from the moment of his death.
