Evening Roundup - Third Sunday in Lent (OF) - March 15th, 2009

Note: As the Triduum approaches, I have been getting more requests for items such as "sung Introits ." While I love sacred music and have a passion for listening to it, I am the last person to advise someone on this! I would highly recommend clicking this link to the Church Music Association of America and placing the words "sung Introit" in their search box. I just did so and recovered at least 18 articles on this subject. The Recovering Choir Director and The New Liturgical Movement (two links below) are also THE places to look for items on sacred music! Musica Sacra: Sung Extraordinary Form: A Workshop for Priests and Seminarians

I have had visitors searching for Retreats or Workshops for priests on Gregorian Chant and other such topics. I would advise anyone seeking help in Sacred Music to first visit Musica Sacra. Here is one example--a Workshop on the Sung Mass in April, 2009 . Here is a list of upcoming events . Here is the ad for the Sacred Music Colloquium . Please bookmark MusicSacra . It is THE place to search first.

GIA, Revised Grail Psalter, and Open Access: The New Liturgical Movement by Jeffrey Tucker

I have received a great number of inquiries of interest regarding my posts on the Revised Grail Psalter. As you know if you looked at follow-up stories, I posted the concerns of Jeffrey Tucker of the New Liturgical Movement who is a major force in Musica Sacra . Today, Mr. Tucker received a response from GIA which will act as the agent for the copyright and the correspondence is posted here . This is of great concern for all of us (or it should be). Open access is mandatory for Liturgical texts that will be used in writing Sacred Music and cannot be the singular property of one agent. Artistic freedom is required so that we obtain the very best music possible to honor God. Please see this message so you understand what is happening here.

NLM: ICEL, copyright, and the core of the problem

Jeffrey Tucker of The New Liturgical Movement puts the issue of new musical settings into perspective with regard to the copyright and taxation standards in place with ICEL. It is an essay well worth reading. The letter from CDWDS specifies that new musical settings are now needed.

The Recovering Choir Director: Sacrosanctum Concilium 36 - a retrospective glimpse

Aristotle has a fascinating historical retrospective on Sacrosanctum Concilium . The Archdiocese of Baltimore is mentioned in this recollection (see no 161). It is a fascinating post and shows how we got from there to here.

Sacred Music Stories That Go Together...

The Catholic News Agency published a story today entitled, "Bishop's book to aid parishes understanding the role of music in divine worship. " In considering this, you might wish to also see this blog report from " The Recovering Choir Director " that seeks to clarify the precise role this new book has with regard to other documents which already have the formal recognition of Rome . Just for your info...
