Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest

A frequent search item is " Latin Mass Retreat ." This is not an easy item to address. I have searched Una Voce-North America and other resources to no avail. The obvious answer is to seek out a Monastery that still uses the Extraordinary Form or to seek out one of the major TLM Societies such as the F.S.S.P. The Institute of Christ the King is a treasure I have not cited often . A quick survey reveals its apostolates are largely in the Midwest, although there are new apostolates in both California and New Jersey! The key of this Institute is the Extraordinary Form or Traditional Latin Mass . Note that there is a Society of the Sacred Heart within the Institute and one way for laity to become involved is via the Oblates shown here . Newsletters are free, and I love the "adopt a seminarian" concept. This is a website worth checking out!

WDTPRS >> From a priest: I must “protect myself from persecution and ridicule” over the TLM

Fr. John Zuhlsdorf carries a post this evening from a young priest who is suffering terribly over his love for the Traditional Latin Mass. The post is heartbreaking. Please read it if you can at this link . I pray for the Holy Father, for bishops and for priests every day. They need our prayers . A post such as this is just one manifestation of what suffering may occur in being an " alter Christus ."

Excellent News on the TLM from the ADW and on the Practicum to Train Priests in the Usus Antiquior

I received the email below from a friend in Maryland. Please check out the photos of the Practicum held in the Archdiocese of D.C. and the First Mass by Fr. White. I am delighted to post such excellent news! Thanks, JR! You should be aware of the following: Pictures from the ADW Practicum for the Extraordinary Form : and First Mass by Father White Father White attended the practicum referred to in the first post. I believe another priest who attended will be celebrating his first mass this Sunday in southern Maryland. It would be good if you posted these on your blog. The posts are from the blog, Meeting Christ in the Liturgy, done by a local priest and Navy Chaplain . I don’t know his name. You may know him. Now that something is happening in the ADW, I think it would be good to publicize the masses said by these 15 priests to increase attendance and give them encouragement. JR

Visitors ask...Latin Mass...

A constant search string that places people on this blog is " Latin Mass " or derivatives thereof (" Latin Mass Parish ," for example). From that point on, problems seem to occur and the individual becomes lost. The Latin Mass can be the Latin " Novus Ordo " Mass (or Ordinary Form ) since the Missale Romanum (Roman Missal) that we use at Mass is in Latin but translated into the vernacular (i.e., English or Spanish). So, a Latin Mass could be one in the Ordinary Form recited in Latin. Such a one is to be found at the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM . The "other" Latin Mass has many names. The motu proprio , " Summorum Pontificum ," called it the Extraordinary Form . It has been known, however, as the Tridentine Mass , the Tridentine Latin Mass, the Pian Mass (for Pope Pius V) or the Usus Antiquior (if one wishes to denote its antiquity with modifications over the centuries).
