Visitors ask..."Mass for the Dedication of a Church" - Tutorial on the Traditional Mass - Translate "Cantemus"

I try to handle these when they are interesting. Search: Propers for the Dedication of a Church The new Baronius Missal, pg. 1073, indicates that the Common of the Dedication for a Church is Missa ' Terribilis ' The Propers for this Mass are found here . Note that the Collect and the Secret Change on the Day of Dedication since the Mass shown online is for an Anniversary of the Church's Dedication. Search: Tutorial on the Latin Mass The amazing Sancta Missa Website has a Multimedia Tutorial on the Latin Mass. This link is found in the header and is linked here . Check it out! Search: How do you pronounce, " Cantemus ?" The pronunciation would be Can té müs which could be Anglicized as : Kahn - TAY '-mus (both the first "a" and the "u" after the "m" are soft--as if followed by an "h") . The word is found in the phrase “ Cantemus Domino” (We Sing to The Lord) . Check out the marvelous blog that uses this

Visitors ask..."things"...

Visitors ask some interesting things. I can only imagine what ends up in Google within search strings. "Fr. Bill Billrose" - Father Bellrose is a priest of the Fathers of Mercy and writes the blog "Seminarians for Life ." It is posted here fairly often... "How do you pronounce Maryland?" - This arises from those overseas quite often. I wish I could say "Mary's Land"--the original pronunciation. Instead, this covers it a bit more in detail . "Abbreviation for Maryland" - This was assigned by the US Postal Service, I believe. Well, MA was grabbed by Massachusetts; MB doesn't match a state; MC is the name of a famous pop singer of some time ago; so, the USPS gave us MD . They gave ME to Maine, etc. & etc. Keep them coming...

Visitors ask...TLM in Charles Town, Frederick, Front Royal and Harpers Ferry...Quo Vadis?

I have been getting a number of "queue" searches for the TLM in Charles Town, Frederick, Front Royal and/or Harpers Ferry. You may have missed this post from several weeks back . It is important for you to read it carefully as I distilled what I could. In essence, THE source for news on the TLM for these communities now is covered by a Yahoo group begun by those interested in keeping the TLM at Charles Town, WV. I cannot say much more as I understand that the situation is being discussed on the other forum. I can say that the TLM was being celebrated by visiting members of the Canons of the New Jerusalem, and that these priests have returned to the West Coast (as I understand it). Whether the TLM will be available in the " corners " area of WV, VA and MD is not known to me. I am sure the Yahoo group will contain more information, and I will post any "official" information I receive (as from a Parish).

Visitors ask...Latin Mass Propers Daily...Where Online?

This question is one I've had in various forms and tried to answer. The answer is, the best way to get daily Mass Propers for the TLM is in a hand missal sold by any one of a number of companies. The entire Missal is simply not online...yet. This site offers the Propers of the Mass in PDF format . MusicaSacra offers the entire Missale Romanum 1962 for download here . The Tridentine Latin Rite Missal Project has many of the major feasts , but it is a slow grind and not in total conformance with Summorum Pontificum as yet. Note that all three of these links can be found in the Right Menu Bar under Favorite Blogs and Websites . I think for many, the perfect solution is this site . The Latin Mass Propers are in English and posted by a Deacon daily. I have cited them often and it too is in the Right Menu . Hope this is helpful!

Visitors ask...Monasteries (Franciscan, Trappist, Carmelite) in Maryland

This is a perennial but seems to continue to get "fruitless searches" no matter how many times I post it. I will continue trying every combination I can so that folks can find the information. Here is the list of Religious Orders or Monasteries and their locations in Maryland . Here is the Master list of all Orders as found on the FAQs, #4 . Some have search forms. And, since the Franciscan Order is a frequent search, I have the Franciscan Monastery in Maryland and also have a link to the one in D.C . Hope that helps!

Visitors ask...How do you pronounce "Notre Dame?"

I think I need to start a new blog! These things are popping up left and right now. I presume the individual was not asking about the University in South Bend, IN which we all "Cheer, cheer for old..." . That has been americanized to "Noter Dame" where the "a" in Dame is a long and hard "a". Some do pronounce the "Notre" as "Nut-rah" realizing its French roots. Here is the pronounciation as given by someone knowledgeable in French. In France, the Cathedral is pronounced as follows: There are plenty of examples where a mispronunciation of a foreign word or phrase has become standard - Notre Dame, for instance. French speakers would pronounce it “no-truh dahm” , but in this country it is and always will be “noh-ter daym” . No doubt the ears of Francophones are offended every time those words are uttered, but it’s become a fixture. Found it here ... Been there too... Amazing!

Visitors ask...How do you pronounce "Maryland". How do you pronounce "Jubilate"?

Well, you never know what people will want to know! Someone asked "how to pronounce Maryland ?" Frankly, it depends! I have lived here a long time and have heard about 40 different pronunciations! Here is the official one from the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary . The woman does a sterling job with " ˈ mer-ə-lənd". However, I've heard "Merlin" (as in the magician from King Arthur's Court), "Marilyn" (with the "d" dropped as in the name, Marilyn Monroe), and "Myrrhland" (as in Gold, Frankincense and .... )! It depends upon where in the state you were born, I guess! And, it is a small state! The most common is probably "merrill-end" (as in the name of the stock brokerage company with no seeming linkage between the "l" and the "and"). That's my 2 cents anyway. The Latin word "Jubilate" is linked here . It is from the Vulgate and is used in the Introit of

Visitors ask...Tridentine Mass, Latin Mass, Archdiocese of Baltimore (or the TLM or Usus Antiquior) in Baltimore or in Maryland

I thought I had covered this adequately, but it still appears in "search strings" in various forms and orders of words! Search engines are "tempermental!" Visitors often ask for the "Tridentine Mass" (or the "Latin Mass," or the "TLM," or " Usus Antiquior ," or "Extraordinary Form") in the Archdiocese of Baltimore (or even more generally, "in Baltimore" or "in Maryland"). Here is the scoop... The ONLY " TLM " or " Tridentine Mass " celebrated in the Archdiocese of Baltimore every Sunday and Holy Day is at Saint Alphonsus Church on Saratoga Street in the heart of Baltimore city. The Sunday TLM Mass there is at 11:30 AM. There is a weekly " Latin Novus Ordo Mass " celebrated at the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption nearby at 9:00 AM each Sunday. Please note that both of these Masses are to be found in the RIGHT MENU and are also contained in th
