Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, Ann Arbor, MI

A few days back, I did a post on the "Nashville Dominicans." I just received my quarterly newsletter from the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and they have a beautiful new website ! Please take the time to look over this site. The thing that is so beautiful about both of these Religious Orders is the utter joy in the faces of the young women who have consecrated themselves to God! The Dominican Sisters of Mary are holding a Vocations Retreat for young women in May . I have begun to post these type of things to the Events Calendar shown in the header in the month of May . Note that the May Retreat has a link back to the Sisters' own website. Please let me know if you have events that you wish to post! One more thing, Una Voce America has updated its website and it is beautiful as well. I have it linked in the Blogroll and Favorites Menu to the Right . Update 4/23/2009 : I received a very kind email from the Dominicans Sisters of Mary thankin

Visitors ask...Arabic Catholic Churches in Maryland

I have posted on this before but it is recurring. The Catholic Church is not composed simply of the Latin Rite . Instead, as this post on EWTN points out: There are three major groupings of Rites based on this initial transmission of the faith, the Roman , the Antiochian (Syria) and the Alexandrian (Egypt). Later on the Byzantine derived as a major Rite from the Antiochian, under the influence of St. Basil and St. John Chrysostom . From these four derive the over 20 liturgical Rites present in the Church today. The languages used in these Rites varies. I know priests of the Maronite Rite who celebrate the Divine Liturgy in Aramaic but who also know the Latin Rite and speak beautiful Latin or English. I just checked the Archdiocesan website and can't find much in the way of the Eastern Rites. This website, from the Byzantine Catholics of Anerica, has a more comprehensive list .

Visitors ask...Saint Bernadette Church in the ADW (or any Parish in the Archdiocese of Washington)

Saint Bernadette's Parish in Silver Spring is a perennial "search" to land on this blog. I must get at least 2 hits a week searching for it. First, it is in the Archdiocese of Washington so the trick is to look up all the Parishes in that Archdiocese. So, simply click here . Note that the Parishes are divided into Washington or Maryland (as the ADW takes in areas of both). Checking the Maryland Parishes , it is found here under Saint Bernadette .

Coalition in Support of Ecclesia Dei - In Support of the TLM

Yesterday, I received a mailing from the Coalition in Support of Ecclesia Dei . It struck me that I had never posted an article on this group on the TLM in Maryland blog! I had completely forgotten! This organization is a "Coalition in Support of the Latin Mass of the Roman Rite ." The group provides a great deal of useful information on the growth of the TLM both before and after the release of Summorum Pontificum . Their website is as up-to-date as possible as to where one can find a Latin Mass [although "niche" blogs such as this one help to supplement their information .] You will note that I have the Ecclesia Dei Mass directory in the right menu ; it is a very valuable resource located under my Favorite Websites and Blogroll. The Coalition provides such items as Altar Cards and Books , has instructive "educational materials" including "how to serve the Latin Mass, and provides an Order Form online for various items that are needed f

The Marvelous Archdiocese of Baltimore Website

They simply don't make it any easier than this. If you go here, you'll find the "Parish" page . Note that the Parishes are organized alphabetically , by county (using a map) and by Vicariate (Archbishop O'Brien has several Auxiliary Bishops each of whom has an area of jurisdiction). Below this, one can search for a Mass by "time and day." Put in the day and select the time and a Mass is found for you here . Note that one can search for Confession by time and day here . Here is a list of the Shrines, Grottos and also the Parishes of the Byzantine Rite . And for those looking for a Mass by language, for those who are hearing impaired and so on, go here . Hat tip! It just doesn't get any easier than that!
