Visitors ask...How do you pronounce "Guadalupe?"

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas and is a powerful intercessor for the Pro-Life cause. I checked the Merriam-Webster dictionary and found the pronunciation there which is not what one hears in an area with a large population of Hispanics! I then went to wiki.names and looked up Guadalupe and found this : Pronunciation: wah-da-loo-pay, gwa-da-loo-pay A colleague is quite fluent in Spanish and I asked which is more correct? (I use the second pronunciation). She told me that there are diverse dialects and that either could be used but the latter is probably more representative. In any case, she said the "G" is soft and not hard and guttural. Therefore, a native Spanish speaker could easily be understood to be using version #1.

Visitors ask...Daily Latin Mass Readings-II

I continue to have people searching for "Daily Latin Mass Readings." By this, I suppose they mean Readings akin to these for the Novus Ordo Missae . These are the major readings that change day by day and are read aloud. The Roman Missal of 1962 is explained here on New Advent . Note that: The smaller of these divisions containing that portion of the liturgy which is said in every Mass, the "Ordo Missae" with the prefaces and the Canon, is placed, probably with a view to the more convenient opening of the book, near the centre of the volume immediately before the proper Mass for Easter Sunday . The portions of the Mass which change daily are referred to as the Propers: The remainder of the book is devoted to those portions of the liturgy which vary from day to day according to feast and season. Each Mass consists usually of Introit , Collect, Epistle, Gradual and Alleluia or Tract, Gospel, Offertory , Secret, Communion, and Post-Communion, the passages or p

Breaking : RORATE CÆLI - IMPORTANT INTERVIEW - "Similar to Opus Dei?" Schmidberger responds: "Somewhat."

New Catholic posts a lengthy interview with Fr. Franz Schmidberger, Superior for the District of Germany of the S.S.P.X. Read the post in its entirety here . Here is an excerpt: KNA: In 2005 there was a conversation in Castel Gandofo, in which, in addition to the Pope, curial Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, and Traditionalist Bishop Bernard Fellay, you also took part. What was agreed at that time? Schmidberger: We discussed the entire situation with the Society and agreed on the path which we are now following. The Motu Proprio of 2007 and the lifting of the so-called excommunications were the first steps. Now comes the theological dialog. Next we have to find a canonical structure for the Society with its 500 priests. We are satisfied with the solution that Rome is considering. KNA: Which is? Schmidberger: In the direction of a personal prelature. KNA: Similar to Opus Dei? Schmidberger: Somewhat. The interview is far more detailed and deals with the planned ordinations as well .

The letter is in PDF format but a portion is reproduced below: [...] After many months spent in discerning God's will for us in the Church, the Community believes that it is called to full communion with the Holy See. God willing, the Archbishop of Baltimore, in the Roman Catholic Church, will receive the All Saints Sisters in a service to be held in our Chapel on 3 September, 2009. Our community will keep these next weeks leading up to the scheduled reception of its Sisters as a period of final discernment and preparation. It will therefore not be possible for us to answer all the questions and concerns which we may receive. Of the 12 Sisters, 10 will be received as of now.
