Boston Catholic Journal: Basic Catholic Prayers in Latin and English (audio or CD)

Twitter has proven to be quite a useful tool for many things. Here, fstemp of Duluth, GA , has linked to a great website which I happened to pick up on (I follow Fred on Twitter). He linked to the Boston Catholic Journal site which has downloads of some basic prayers in both Latin and English and also has CDs of these prayers . This is quite a treat for those who want to say the Rosary, the Angelus, etc. Thanks, Brother Fred! Dominus vobiscum!

Visitors ask...Holy Rosary in Latin?

I have a number of tapes and CDs of the Rosary in Latin. I must say, however, that the most beautiful may be that from Pro Multis Media . The pronunciation and diction of the Latin by Fr. Patrick Perez is simply impeccable and easy to commit to memory. The price is also very modest. For someone looking to learn the Rosary in Latin while driving to work, for example, this CD can't be beat!

The CD will be available for Ash Wednesday and is available from Little Lamb Music . Little Lamb Music was begun by Theresa and Ray Hermann. Ray is a Grammy Award winner . The proceeds go to assist the Redemptorist missions in Nigeria and Brazil. Nice story!

NLM: What is going on at Mount St. Mary's?

Jeffrey Tucker of The New Liturgical Movement asks a rhetorical question and then answers it . The article concerns a new CD recorded by the seminarians at the Mount . In short, Mr. Tucker is floored: Someone might further observe that this music never really sounded that good in the 1910-1950s, and then argue that it was dropped for good reason, that it was moldy and had to go. On the other hand, what replaced it was far worse, and I tend to reject claims that the old sentimentalism is aesthetically equal to Glory & Praise. Whatever was wrong with the Montani/Ravanello oeuvre, it was pious and sought integration with the Roman Rite. In any case, it hardly matters, because the singers do an amazing job with the music, and make a very strong case for it actually. I'm blown away by how well these guys sing, and the recording quality is outstanding. Someone had the good sense to put lots of effort into this project. It is very exciting, and I can only hope it becomes a big sel

Faith: Latin Mass for Those on the Go

The Signal, News from Santa Clarita Valley, California, carries a story by Tammy Marashlian on how two priests restored a treasured recording of a High Mass : When Father Dominic Radecki, priest of Queen of Angels Church in Newhall, and his twin brother, Father Francisco Radecki, priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wayne, Michigan, realized that their original live recording of a traditional Latin Mass was deteriorating, they knew something had to be done. “Because it was so beautiful, we wanted to preserve it,” Francisco Radecki said. “It would have been lost.” Fortunately for them, the two happen to have an extensive background in sound engineering, something they picked up through school programs when they were young. Already having most of the necessary equipment, the two set to work examining, editing and re-recording the six miles of reels. The result of their efforts is the compact disc “High Mass Recorded Live,” which they believe embodies the meaning of Latin Mass and puts
