Evening Roundup for WDTPRS: Thursday, April 24th, 2008

There is a lot "brewing" today on Fr. Zuhlsdorf's blog, " What Does the Prayer Really Say "? Here is just a sampling: " A priest teaches his flock about the TLM - this guy really gets it !" " Florida Alert: Tallahassee TLM - June 8 " " EWTN's Raymond Arroyo reacts to comments about coverage of the Papal visit " " UK 15 Nov '08 - confirmations with the old Pontifical " " These are my mother's flavors " (Papal must read)

Visitors ask...Papal Mass DVDs and TLM Vestments

How do I get a DVD or CD of the Papal Masses from the Holy Father's visit? EWTN is already offering the DVD for the Papal Mass in Washington, D.C. , but it is out of stock. I would keep an eye on this EWTN location . It is sure to have ALL the Papal Masses eventually. Also, if I get word from the Archdioceses of Washington and New York, I will post a link. I am looking for classical Tridentine Mass vestments and/or items for the Tridentine Mass ( Extraordinary Form ; Usus Antiquior , TLM). Where can I find these? I am not an expert on this and I am sure that other sites have far better lists of suppliers. However, if you look at the very end of the FAQs for this blog , there is a category listing several places which sell Mass vestments and liturgical supplies. Note that one is an Order of Religious Sisters in Scranton, PA who specialize in making vestments for the F.S.S.P.

Papal Mass Readings at Nationals Stadium

A great many of you are trying to find the Mass Readings for the Papal Mass at Nationals Stadium. Please check the EWTN website here . You will notice on the right under, "Words," a link that reads " Liturgical Texts for the Apostolic Visit ." Clicking this will give you the PDF version. Your browser may also be able to view the pages in HTML. I believe this is from the Vatican and has the Vespers service and all liturgies. There are also the words of Pope Benedict to be said at "Ground Zero."

Papal Visit to Washington, DC and New York

Remember to keep it here--on EWTN--for the Papal visit on either radio and TV . I am hearing that Sirius radio will also carry the EWTN feed via radio.

The Mountain Echo: EWTN experiences the heart of the Mount

Katie Sechrist has posted a story on Mount Saint Mary's as the site for a series to be aired on EWTN next year . Monsignor Stuart Swetland will be the moderator on the 13-part series of thirty-minute TV shows. Here is a short snippet from her article: "I pitched the initial idea and I believed it was best to demonstrate the idea of campus with students on the stage, it gives a sense of the atmosphere. This will also enhance Catholic Identity...this can also be used for educational purposes," said Interim Chaplain Msgr. Stuart Swetland . Msgr. Swetland is in his fourth season of hosting shows on EWTN . A series consists of 13 different shows on a topic. The first was a mini-course Catholic Social Teaching, the second was Catholicism on Campus- Questions College Students Ask from the University of Illinois, and the third was a show on seminarians which is scheduled to air later this year. The fourth season which is filming this week is Ex Corde Ecclesiae . Please g

Evening Roundup - Second Sunday after Easter, April 6th, 2008

In the roundup for yesterday evening, I indicated that a post by Fr. Zuhlsdorf on What Does the Prayer Really Say? was a "must read." It involved a detailed post concerning the Traditional Latin Mass by a distinguished Italian priest, Fr. Pierro Cantoni, who has an excellent take on Summorum Pontificum . Today, Fr. Zuhlsdorf has a post on a story by the Catholic Herald of the U.K. In short, as reported by WDTPRS , Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos has "reconfirmed" that priests do not need the permission of their Bishops to use the extraordinary form of the Mass. The full details are here ! Must read . Finally, Fr. Zuhlsdorf has some beautiful photos and commentary on the TLM from Hanceville, AL for those unable to see the Missa Cantata this morning .

This information came via email from my friend with knowledge on all issues on the TLM. Hat tip, J.! The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (F.S.S.P.) has prepared an instructional Mass video called, "The Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite: An Instructional Video for Priests and Seminarians. " There is a special pre-order price of $19.99. This is a 2-DVD disc set (3 hours total) offered in NTSC format (which will not work properly in overseas CD players using PAL or SECAM format). Go to this site for more information on what the DVDs entail . The DVD has been done in collaboration with the EWTN Global Television Network and is designed to teach priests and seminarians how to say Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite .

Missa Cantata on EWTN Sunday

Here is a link to the EWTN website with a reminder of the Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form to be celebrated tomorrow morning, Sunday, April 6th, at 8 AM EDT . If your computer is equipped with TV software, you can watch it linked here.

The Tridentine Mass: Latin Pronunciation, Canon, EWTN Televised Version of September 14, 2007

I have had posters looking to find the Tridentine ( Pian , Traditional Latin, Extraordinary Form , Usus Antiquior ) Mass, its pronunciation and even a video of a TLM being celebrated. The seekers simply want to listen to the Latin spoken in the Mass. Some of these links below (from the Latin Mass Society of Ireland) were posted within comments when Summorum Pontificum was first released as a story on Catholic World News Online . Note too that the Saint John Cantius Society has a beautiful tutorial and website and that a great deal of information is available on EWTN including full videos of televised Masses and other gems . The Latin Mass Society of Ireland: Text of the Mass - Audio Download (MP3; the Latin Pronunciation with excellent acoustics) The Latin Mass Society of Ireland: Text of the Mass - Mass of the Catechumens (Latin and English readings) The Latin Mass Society of Ireland: Text of the Mass - Mass of the Faithful (Latin and English readings) Televised EWTN Mass

Holy Week Schedule-EWTN

Here is the Triduum Schedule from EWTN in Eastern Time in the U.S. I call your attention to a one hour " Triduum " show scheduled for 8 AM and again at 11 PM. This is the Triduum series by Father John Corapi, S.O.L.T. that was first produced in the late 90's. It is outstanding! The one hour shows for Holy Thursday and Good Friday are especially so. If you find a chance to watch this series of three shows, please do so.

Michael points out some of the translations for us in his review and these are interesting! Good reading for this day!

Latin Mass Resources-EWTN

In the blogroll to this opus, you will notice a reference to Resources for the Traditional Latin Mass on EWTN . The marvelous repository and gem of all things Catholic--EWTN-- has a link to a trove of things useful for understanding the Traditional Latin Mass. Among these are: the TLM Mass texts in PDF format (book and scrollable format) the full video (2 hours) of the Mass of December 15, 2007 the homily for this Mass in MP3 format archives to past TLM performances on EWTN a listing of Magisterial documents on the TLM The website, Sancta Missa, which is the work of the St. John Cantius Society, also has tremendous resources and that too is listed in the blogroll. Reminder: Televised TLM Mass on EWTN

Catholic Online reminds us that there will be a " Rorate " Mass celebrated by the F.S.S.P. on EWTN from Hanceville, AL on Saturday morning December 15th at 8:00 AM EST . The Mass takes its name from the openings words of the Mass: The " Rorate Mass," so called because it begins with the words " Rorate caeli desuper, et nubes pluant iustum ..." (Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the Just One...), is a votive Mass offered within the season of Advent in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Please tune in if you possibly can and have your TIVO ready to record. The first TLM celebrated on EWTN had a huge backlog of DVDs on order.
