Fordham University to Celebrate TLM on Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I have been receiving a number of searches for news or details on the TLM Mass which is scheduled for Fordham University on the Second Sunday in Lent. I first reported this by linking earlier to this article on RORATE CÆLI . I checked the Fordham University website, and they list the TLM on their Events Calendar . A great place for essential information may be The Society of St. Hugh of Cluny blog : Fordham University Jesuits will offer a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the high altar of the Fordham University Church next Sunday, February 28 at 2:30 pm. The celebrant will be the Rev. Stephen M. Fields, S.J., Associate Professor of Theology at Georgetown University and the priest who was instrumental in bringing the Traditional Latin Mass to Georgetown a few years ago. Hat tip to Stuart Chessman who is all over this story!

The Divine Life: New ADW Weekly TLM at St. John Neumann Church in Gaithersburg, MD - February 21st, 2010

Many of you will notice that I have been linking to a very nice blog entitled, The Divine Life , written by Eric Sammons. Today, he posted the following : On an even more local note, the pastor of my own parish, St. John Neumann in Gaithersburg, MD , will begin celebrating the Extraordinary Form of the Mass weekly at 5pm on Sundays starting on Feb. 21st (the First Sunday in Lent). He will begin by celebrating the low mass, and he hopes to move to a Missa Cantata (basically a low mass with a choir) by Easter. If you are in the area, try to make an effort to attend! I asked him to confirm this and he has. You will notice it is now listed in the menu of the TLM Masses in the region. This is great news! Laus Deo!

Visitors ask...Opus Dei - FSSP - Latin Mass? I'm confused!

I get many searches that show evidence of a misunderstanding between "Opus Dei," "F.S.S.P." and "Latin Mass." So, searches for "Opus Dei Latin Mass" are not uncommon. Here is the link to Opus Dei in the U.S. with all the information you could wish. It is a "personal Prelature" and has nothing to do with the Latin or Traditional Mass. Its founder is a canonized saint, Saint Josemaria Escriva . Is it possible that an Opus Dei priest could say the TLM? Yes! See below! The F.S.S.P. is actually shorthand for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter or, in Latin, Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri (thus the contraction, FSSP !). This Fraternity says Mass according to the Missal of 1962 (the Traditional Mass, Extraordinary Form or Usus Antiquior to use several acronyms). This group DOES celebrate the "Latin Mass." It is only one of several groups that use this Missal including the Institute of Christ the King Sov

Vocation Gold Mine: Vocation-Station, Canada

I love the internet. While searching for something else, I stumbled upon this blog--" Vocation-Station "-- posted by a "hermit without a permit" who lists his address as Canada. The blog is rather unique in that it catalogs religious Orders and posts the information as video clips. In the right menu, here is how the Orders are listed by category: "AUDIO only" (5) "Pope Benedict" (4) "the Passion of the Christ" (1) Benedictines (21) Brothers (13) Carmelite (5) Carthusian (6) Contemplative (34) Dominican (9) Franciscan (11) français (13) Gregorian Chant (17) Hermit (5) Into Great Silence (1) Italiano (5) Missionaries (5) Monastic (23) Monastic Community of Bethlehem and the Assumption (2) Nuns (22) Prayer (2) Priesthood (9) Religious Life (3) Seminary (6) Sisters (14) Trappist/Cistercian (8) Vocation (54) Needless to say, this link is going in the Right Menu . Visitors ask...Latin Mass Seminary?

This is getting more difficult to answer as many seminaries are now preparing men to say the Extraordinary Form including Mount Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg and many others. If someone wanted an exclusive training in the Extraordinary Form , this Seminary is where I'd start . Please check the Menu on the right side under Blogroll and Favorites . You will also find links to the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest , Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem , Clear Creek Monastery , etc.

Visitors ask...Traditional Abbey for Retreat or Visits in the U.S. Using the Extraordinary Form

Image
I realized from the requests for "traditional retreats" that some are seeking a religious or monastic experience in order to discern a vocation or to "get away" from it all. Our Lady of the Annunciation Monastery is a Benedictine Abbey located in Clear Creek, OK . The Abbey is a foundation of the Benedictine Abbey of Fontgombault, France, the Congregation of Solesmes. Here is the Horarium , and the Liturgical Schedule . Visitors are welcome to Clear Creek provided they make arrangements in advance as described here. This detailed "sitemap" provides a good deal of information ; CDs are for sale and are exquisite . The calendar of events is posted , although I have subscribed to their newsletter which is mailed periodically. Clear Creek offers one a chance to see the unique Benedictine monastic experience without leaving the United States. The Monks are building a Monastery designed to last centuries. It is one place that many might want to visi

Saint John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Leesburg, VA - TLM First Sunday of the Month

My dear friend has notified me that Saint John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Leesburg, VA offers Mass in the Extraordinary Form the First Sunday of each month at 10:30 in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception . I don't list Masses in the TLM menu unless they are offered weekly, however, I thought I'd publicize this Mass. If it becomes a weekly event, please let me know! As Fr. Zuhlsdorf pointed out in a post a few days ago, a "stable group" is THREE people and that can include the priest.

Mountain Echo: Mount celebrates traditional Latin Mass

Kala Garry posts an article in the "Mountain Echo"--the campus newspaper of Mount Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD--on the Traditional Mass celebrated on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception as experienced from a "student's-eye" view. The article documents the experience of the Usus Antiquior from those who may never have seen one previously. While mostly unfamiliar with the EF, many Mount students joined the seminarians for the special celebration. Having grown up with the Norvus Ordo, most were lost between the quiet Latin prayers of the priest and the beautiful parts sung by the choir. Regardless, the reverence of the Mass brought many into a high form of worship. "It was an incredible experience," reflects sophomore Tricia Lester. "I don't even know how to put it into words. The reverence of the prayers and the solemness of the Mass gave me a deeper appreciation of the miracle that occurs at every Eucharist. Plus, the homily wa
