Visitors ask...How do you pronounce "Guadalupe?"
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas and is a powerful intercessor for the Pro-Life cause.
I checked the Merriam-Webster dictionary and found the pronunciation there which is not what one hears in an area with a large population of Hispanics!
I then went to wiki.names and looked up Guadalupe and found this:
Pronunciation: wah-da-loo-pay, gwa-da-loo-pay
A colleague is quite fluent in Spanish and I asked which is more correct? (I use the second pronunciation). She told me that there are diverse dialects and that either could be used but the latter is probably more representative. In any case, she said the "G" is soft and not hard and guttural. Therefore, a native Spanish speaker could easily be understood to be using version #1.

Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles - Mass During the Day
USCCB Daily Readings
Saint of the Day: Sts. Peter and Paul
Visitors ask...Daily Latin Mass Readings-II
I continue to have people searching for "Daily Latin Mass Readings." By this, I suppose they mean Readings akin to these for the Novus Ordo Missae. These are the major readings that change day by day and are read aloud.
The Roman Missal of 1962 is explained here on New Advent. Note that:
The portions of the Mass which change daily are referred to as the Propers:
If you wish to find the Mass Propers in English, this man does an amazing job. He updates his posts daily, and the feasts are always accurate. If, however, you are looking for the Latin Propers with the English translation, things get a bit more difficult. There is no one approved site that exists that is comparable to the USCCB which is an official version. Only an approved Missal would contain the correct Propers.
For many major feasts or Sundays, this can be done. Here is a link to the Fourth Sunday after Pentecost. If you scroll down, you'll find a link that goes to the Latin Propers that takes you here. If you wish to have a "paper version," Una Voce of Orange County has actually mounted pages from a Missal which is approved and is in a number of formats. This can be downloaded.
This leaves the daily Mass. As it turns out, there is no "approved site" which carries these although one can find the Propers from "other sources." I post these when I can but always with a caveat that these are NOT liturgically-approved.
Until this is resolved, the best solution is a daily Missal. Other than that, I "catch as catch can" and post what I can find for the present (with the proper "caveat").
The Roman Missal of 1962 is explained here on New Advent. Note that:
The smaller of these divisions containing that portion of the liturgy which is said in every Mass, the "Ordo Missae" with the prefaces and the Canon, is placed, probably with a view to the more convenient opening of the book, near the centre of the volume immediately before the proper Mass for Easter Sunday.
The portions of the Mass which change daily are referred to as the Propers:
The remainder of the book is devoted to those portions of the liturgy which vary from day to day according to feast and season. Each Mass consists usually of Introit, Collect, Epistle, Gradual and Alleluia or Tract, Gospel, Offertory, Secret, Communion, and Post-Communion, the passages or prayers corresponding to each of these titles being commonly printed in full.It is these that people usually seek and would be called the Propers for a certain Mass or feast. So, the first issue is to seek the Propers of the Mass.

If, however, you are looking for the Latin Propers with the English translation, things get a bit more difficult. Breaking : RORATE CÆLI - IMPORTANT INTERVIEW - "Similar to Opus Dei?" Schmidberger responds: "Somewhat."
New Catholic posts a lengthy interview with Fr. Franz Schmidberger, Superior for the District of Germany of the S.S.P.X. Read the post in its entirety here. Here is an excerpt:
KNA: In 2005 there was a conversation in Castel Gandofo, in which, in addition to the Pope, curial Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, and Traditionalist Bishop Bernard Fellay, you also took part. What was agreed at that time?Schmidberger: We discussed the entire situation with the Society and agreed on the path which we are now following. The Motu Proprio of 2007 and the lifting of the so-called excommunications were the first steps. Now comes the theological dialog. Next we have to find a canonical structure for the Society with its 500 priests. We are satisfied with the solution that Rome is considering.KNA: Which is?Schmidberger: In the direction of a personal prelature.KNA: Similar to Opus Dei?Schmidberger: Somewhat.

All Saints Sisters of the Poor: A letter from The Reverend Mother Christina to Associates, Fellowship members and friends - June 18, 2009
I was advised tonight that the All Saints Convent had posted a letter on its website. The site now contains "A letter from The Reverend Mother Christina to Associates, Fellowship members and friends - June 18, 2009." The letter is in PDF format but a portion is reproduced below:
[...]Please read Reverend Mother Christina's entire letter and pray for the Sisters on their journey. May God be with them!
After many months spent in discerning God's will for us in the Church, the Community believes that it is called to full communion with the Holy See.
God willing, the Archbishop of Baltimore, in the Roman Catholic Church, will receive the All Saints Sisters in a service to be held in our Chapel on 3 September, 2009.
Our community will keep these next weeks leading up to the scheduled reception of its Sisters as a period of final discernment and preparation. It will therefore not be possible for us to answer all the questions and concerns which we may receive. Of the 12 Sisters, 10 will be received as of now.
Because the service on September 3rd will be an intensely personal moment in the faith journey of each Sister, and because our space is limited (especially with construction going on), it can be shared only with family and others who have had a part in our journey. We do appreciate your love and understanding, and ask for your prayers on the day.
We are also deeply grateful for the gracious guidance and continued support offered by Archbishop O'Brien and the priests and people of his Archdiocese, and for the prayers of so many throughout the world.
[...]
In His love,
Mother Christina
Superior of All Saints

Opus Dei News: Masses for Feast of Saint Josemaría - June 26th, 2009
I receive so many searches for Opus Dei that I've decided to try to post occasional news of importance for readers of this blog.
June 26th, the anniversary of Saint Josemaría's death in 1975, is now his feast day. Special Masses will be celebrated in many cities around the U.S. Here is a link to the various Masses which will be celebrated around the country. This is the official list from Opus Dei US. To my knowledge, all of these are Masses in the Ordinary Form, but I am not certain of that. Please check the dates and times!

In his weekly column, "Thoughts on Our Church," His Exellency Archbishop Edwin F.
