“Ubi Petrus, Ibi Ecclesia, Ibi Deus”
Visitor asks..."Do You Know of Any Daily TLM in MD/VA?"
Those who are frequent visitors know that I list the Parishes in the area with TLM Mass in the right menu at the very top which is ----> HERE:
A cursory glance shows that almost all are Sunday Masses. So, the next question is, which kind of Parish is likely to offer a daily TLM? My first bet would be an F.S.S.P. Church. Sure enough, Harrisburg has a Parish with a daily TLM. My next stop was to look in the header which is up ^ HERE for the Ecclesia Dei-Traditional Mass Directory. This is updated with reasonable frequency so it is rather a good resource. It shows that in the Diocese of Richmond, there are two Parishes shown:
- St Benedict Church, Chesapeake, VA which has daily TLM Mass
- St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Richmond, VA which also has a daily TLM Mass.
One Diocese which is really offering abundant Sunday TLM's is the Diocese of Arlington. It even has a link on its website devoted to the TLM. I noted that yet another TLM is to be started on Sunday, August 23rd in Warrenton, VA: St. John the Evangelist. Dominus vobiscum, Your Excellency, Bishop Loverde!
Hope that helps!

Mount Saint Mary's University: "A Mount Giant Passes Away" - Fr. Robert Zylla
Fr. Zylla taught at the Mount for 38 years, and despite his illness, finished teaching the semester this past May. During his time at the Mount, it’s estimated that he taught half of the 1200 priests who have graduated from the Mount and 80 percent of all the priests and six current bishops serving the Church in the United States today.
“Fr. Zylla was simply an extraordinary gentleman and an exemplary priest,” said President Powell. “He was a favorite of students and will long be remembered for his gentleness, quick wit, superb intelligence and his teaching of the works of St. Thomas Aquinas. He also held a special place in his heart for St. Odilia, patron saint of the Crozier order.”
Please read the entire news brief here. May God grant him Eternal Peace!

Prayer Request - Father Robert Zylla, O.S.C.
Update: July 30th, 9:00 PM (EDT) Here is a later entry that was posted today. It was posted by Mount Saint Mary's.
I just received word that Fr. Robert Zylla of Mount Saint Mary's Seminary has passed away. It was apparently announced by the Knights of Columbus of Maryland. I'm sure the Seminary will have further details in due course. The Archdiocese will also prepare a statement, I would presume.
Here is the information that was contained in the Alumni article online from February, 2007 that I had cited yesterday:
Seminary Honors the Rev. Robert Zylla, O.S.C.
Seminarians, faculty and staff recently honored the Rev. Robert V. Zylla, associate professor of moral theology, on his 80th birthday. A Mass, with Father Zylla serving as the principal celebrant, was held on Sunday morning, January 28, in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. A dinner followed later in the evening.Father Zylla, a Crosier father, has been a member of the seminary faculty since 1971. During his tenure, he has taught more than 80 percent of all seminary alumni. Monsignor Steven P. Rohlfs, STD, S'76, rector, called his former professor "a model of prayer and devotion for priests and our seminary's bicentennial treasure."
V.: Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine.
R.: Et lux perpetua luceat ei.
V.: Requiescat in pace.
R.: Amen.
V.: Anima ejus, et animae omnium fidelium defunctorum, per misericordiam Dei requiescant in pace.
R.: Amen.
