Good Friday
Feria Sexta in Parasceve
1st Class
White & Violet
[Vespers obligatory only for those not at the Liturgy of the Passion]

Note-2: The Liturgy of the Commemoration of the Passion and Death of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The liturgy is celebrated in the afternoon at about 3 PM and in any event before 6 PM.  The altar is completely bare, without crucifix, candles, or altar cloths.  After adoration of the Holy Cross, until the beginning of the Easter Vigil, all genuflect before the Cross at the main altar, but only during liturgical services.  Otherwise, all bow to the altar.   Vespers not obligatory for those who assist at the evening service.  Compline proper with psalms of Sunday.  Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence.  Pope Benedict XVI's 2008 Good Friday prayer for the Jews is now used and indicated below.      Use the intercession, Oremus et pro Iudaeis, shown below

R. Amen.

Let us also pray for the Jews: that our God and Lord may illuminate their hearts, that they acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all men.

P. Let us pray.

D. Let us kneel.
S. Arise.

Almighty, eternal God, Who wishes that all men be saved and come to a knowledge of truth, propitiously grant that as the fullness of the nations enters Your Church, all of Israel may be saved. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
R. Amen.
