Christmas Eve Midnight Mass Announcement

Fr. Owens would like to announce (and St James Parish is delighted to host) a Christmas Eve Midnight Mass in the extraordinary form. This traditional Latin High Mass will be offered at St. Peter’s Church in Harpers Ferry, WV, at midnight on Christmas Eve night, Wednesday, 24 December, 2008. The Mass will be said by Msgr. Richard Hughes, a retired priest from the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, who is now living in Maryland. Schola Carmeli will sing the proper of the Mass and offer traditional carols preceding the Mass starting at 11:30pm. All are invited to attend!

PARKING UPDATE:

Dear friends,
I received the following information relating to parking options in Harpers Ferry for the Midnight High Mass:

"St. James parish has permission from the Park Service to use the St. Peter's Church parking lot and the Harpers Ferry train station parking lot from 10:00pm on Christmas Eve until 2:00am (and beyond, if necessary) on Christmas morning to accomodate the vehicles of those attending Midnight Mass at St Peter's."

For those not familiar with this historic church, it sits on the top of a hill that oversees the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, in the Historic Town of Harpers Ferry, WV. The church parking lot is very small. So parking in the train station lot may be necessary. The train station usually charges a fee for tourists, but with this permission, there will be no charge to attend this Mass. There is a narrow road that leads to the Church for drop off.
